Vail Chophouse has a classic mountain-steakhouse atmosphere–warm, lively, and perfect for warming up after a day on the mountain.

The service is friendly and was attentive initially but slowed when it came time to box up leftovers and leave, we waited a while for the check.

The food we had was solid and satisfying. We were craving soup and the French Onion Soup hit the spot! It was so much more flavorful than the Slow Cooked Pork Shank, which was good, just bland for my taste and I typically think a lot of food we eat is over-seasoned.

The manhattan cocktail was well made, especially if you enjoy something strong and straightforward. Portions are on the larger side, which was good since it is on the pricier end as expected for the location and the resort atmosphere.

Excellent restaurant with a grape vibe. Great bar with lots of TVs live entertainment sometimes. I had the lamb chops and they were excellent. The wedge salad with salmon was also very good. I wouldn’t recommend the cheesecake it was the small kind of cupcake size I prefer the wedge where the real strawberry sauce on top.

I stepped off the slopes into the restaurant as a solo diner at about 1 PM hoping to get a quick bite. There was no one at the front host stand so I stood there in front of the “Wait to be Seated” sign and waited patiently. Looking around, I was passed by two servers who didn’t make eye contact and walked past me. Then I noticed a woman with dark hair sitting at the table in the nook to the right of the host stand sitting in front of a laptop on her phone. She made eye contact and looked away, so I assumed she was a customer. There was a tall, older man in an orange sweater and jeans was standing at the bar socializing with customers whom I assumed was also a customer. Then as I stood there for what was now well over five minutes, he turned around, looked at me (in my purple ski suit—hard to miss), walked right past me, went to the woman sitting in front of her laptop in the corner, said something to her, walked past me again back to the bar and continued to socialize. At this point, I was about to walk to the bar to ask if anybody was going to seat me when a man brought a couple of other guests in from the outside and took them to the bar to seat them. This turned out to be the bartender. So I walked over to him and said that I had been waiting there for over five minutes and was ignored and asked if I should just seat myself or leave. He seemed shocked, and kindly invited me to join at the bar, while the customers who were talking to the clueless manager nodded in agreement that I had indeed been waiting a long time. I declined and sat myself at the bench in the window to warm up in the sun. That’s when one of the two servers who had walked past me previously finally came over and explained to me that she was not the hostess, but it was that woman sitting in the corner on her laptop, who saw but completely ignored me the entire time I was standing there.

I ordered my lunch, ate, and left. At no point did the manager or anyone come apologize to me or offer any explanation for why I was ignored for nearly 10 minutes. It was hard not to feel that it was discriminatory, as a previous reviewer felt.

I will be sure never to go back if this is how they treat guests. I’m disgusted with the hostess for ignoring me while chatting on her phone, but even more disgusted with the manager, who had no problem with the fact that she was not doing her job and couldn’t be bothered to seat or even acknowledge me himself. Vail has way too many other options for this kind of epic failure to happen. Shame on that hostess and that manager, really—it was disgraceful.

Great spot for dinner at the base of Eagle Bahn gondola. We ordered an appetizer dinner. Reservations are a must.

Pretty solid overall! Had to wrestle my steak a bit, but the flavor was on point and the Brussels sprouts were so bomb. I tried the spicy margarita — and I love heat — but this one was a little too fiery for me. Next time I’ll stick with the classic margarita.

We had a fantastic lunch at Vail Chophouse, and Sofia—our waitress from Argentina—truly elevated the entire experience. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. She knew the menu inside and out, offered thoughtful recommendations, and timed everything perfectly without ever making us feel rushed. Her energy was upbeat and genuine, and she struck that ideal balance between friendly and polished service.

The location is simply unbeatable—right next to the slopes and steps from the gondola. Sitting there with a direct view of the mountain, watching skiers glide by while enjoying a great meal, makes this spot uniquely “Vail.” Whether you’re coming off the mountain or just soaking in the alpine atmosphere, it’s hard to imagine a better setting.

Sofia’s service, combined with the spectacular slopeside location, made this lunch one to remember. We’ll definitely be back.

Surprisingly, the steaks were cooked perfectly, as requested. They were tender, juicy, and very flavorful. However, one of the two steaks we ordered was too salty, while the other was underseasoned.

The fried chicken was very dry.

The side dishes were okay. The asparagus was particularly chewy in the stem.

I apologize for taking so long to leave this review. I am forever grateful to the Vail Chophouse in Lionshead Village for an incredible evening celebrating my son and daughter-in-law to be on the evening of August 29, 2024. We were planning a destination wedding in Vail and I was in charge of the rehearsal dinner for 60 people and welcome party for 150 people. I had never been to Vail so most of the planning was site unseen. I worked with Stacy throughout the process and she continued to calm my nerves and make things easy for me. She helped me plan a beautiful Italian buffet, a nicely designed table layout, microphones for speeches, wine list and the Vail Chophouse’s very own homemade Limoncello at each place setting to cheers the special couple. She even brought in a chef from one of the Italian restaurants in the area to add a special touch to the meal. After dinner, we welcomed 150 guests with an incredible display of hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The indoor area worked perfectly, the bartenders took care of our guests Incredibly and the indoor and outdoor space was just perfect. Not to mention the beautiful view surrounding us. Again, I am forever grateful to Stacy and highly recommend the Vail Chophouse for any event. I also want to mention Joey. I met with him the day before the event to go over any last minute details. You could tell immediately from interaction with Joey and Stacy that they were very well-versed in putting together events like this. Their team of people did an excellent job. Don’t hesitate to book this place if you have the opportunity! Or just enjoy a lovely meal or apres. Love and respect to the Vail Chophouse!

Made the reservation online, stated it was our 36th anniversary. Never came up, I mentioned it to the waitress. Never came up.
Slow to get initial service. Once the wine was ordered, dinner came quickly and was excellent! Then 20-30 minutes, no service, we were there about 90 minutes before I had to ask twice for the check, and never even saw a dessert menu.

5-star experience at Vail Chop House! Started with the Caesar salad, which was absolutely awesome – the perfect blend of flavors and textures. The NY strip topped with béarnaise was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. And, of course, the side of fries was a great addition. Our server, Pablo, was top-notch – attentive, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience seamless. If you’re in Vail, Vail Chop House is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
