I got my usual, the signature burger with loaded fries, and also tried their OG dogs, it was just as perfect as ever. The burger was juicy and full of flavor, and the fries were crispy and seasoned just right. You can really taste the quality in everything.
No matter which location I visit, Urban Skillet always hits the mark with great food, quick service, and a relaxed vibe. Definitely a go-to spot for me. Highly recommend!
Buffalo mac & cheese wrap – 6.5/10 – $11.50 – Flavorful but the buffalo sauce was too tangy/sweet, and chicken could be crispier
Brisket fries – 8/10 – $10.50 – Brisket was juicy and tender, fries were crispy and flavorful, but sauce was too tangy, could use more brisket too
Oreo shake – 9/10 – $6.99 – Perfect amount of oreo, ice cream, and milk
Urban Skillet just opened one of their newest locations in Sugar Land! Overall the food was decent. I think the meat was good and food was flavorful, but the sauces could be better. Their menu consists of a variety of skillet burgers, wraps , hot dogs , wings, and loaded fries ! Worth trying if youre near one of their locations.
This establishment is, by all metrics an outstanding success. The ambiance is pitch-perfect—a stylish, comfortable urban retreat with comfortable seating and perfect lighting. The staff operates at a level of polished professionalism that suggests they might, in their spare time, be solving geopolitical disputes. Lol
The food’s flavor profile is undeniably delicious and good quantity. However, when an esteemed patron is asked to spend a sum double the fast food for a handheld delight, the expectation is merely “good ingredients,”
It is here that the Achilles’ heel is exposed: The Condiments and use of cheap oil.
The current ketchup and whatever oil was used to fry definitely an assault on the palate, an egregious oversight that single-handedly drags down the entire perception of the meticulously prepared fries. The sprinkle of oregano/Parmesan garlic whatever it was on sweet potato fries was perfect but again the taste was ruined due to this yucky after taste due to bad cheap oil. I recommend Heinz is procured rather than the Great restaurant quality Ketchup Compromise. Furthermore, an investigation into the current cooking oil selection is advised, as a better choice would allow the sauces to truly sing, rather than merely hum.
Good luck will revisit highly recommend to those who crave good flavor.
Ordered 2 burgers with the urban sauce with tater tots and sweet potato fries. The wait was about 15 mins in which the host told us beforehand.
The burgers were juicy and had lots of flavor! 10/10!! Surprised how good the burgers were. The sweet potato fries were a little soft to our liking, but the flavor was really good. Price is very reasonable too.
Only downside is it feels a little hot inside so it was a bit uncomfortable to enjoy our meal. Despite this, the host was very nice and we had a great experience. Will definitely come back!
Let me start by saying the service was outstanding and we were welcomed in and helped to a decision by a very thoughtful and patient employee running the counter. She guided us on this culinary adventure.
My brother got the Brisket Patty Melt, I got the house Skillet Burger, and we shared an order of buffalo wings with a side of ranch.
We started with the wings as an appetizer. Crispy, juicy, and dressed to impress… with a satisfying side of ranch that boasted a flavor profile unlike most traditional southern-style ranch dips. Cool, creamy, and a hint of dill.
The Patty Melt was particularly remarkable in the sense that it fully embodied what “elevated” versions of classic flat top fare can be. The meat was tender and powerfully flavorful. Not overly juicy or runny, but wet nonetheless in a unique “sweet/tangy/umami” fusion provided by a signature aioli sauce and caramelized onions. Served on artisan Texas toast (and garnished!).
The Skillet Burger was fully dressed with “the works” (which also included caramelized onions) and a house sauce that is reminiscent of a traditional burger sauce but boasted an undertone of a vinegar based hot sauce of some kind. I LOVED IT. The brioche buns glistened as I tried to control myself from taking too many pictures.
Overall, the experience was fast, friendly, and delicious. Next time we go, we intend to try the loaded tots or the brisket fries (both of which I now have full confidence in being home-runs). Added points for closing even later on weekends, and authentically offering a Halal menu to those applicable.
We will be returning and I HIGHLY recommend giving this location a try if you’re looking to exceed your own expectations.
We were greeted right away upon entering. We were asked if it was our first time, which it was. He offered suggestions but my eyes was already drawn to the Truffle Banger. We were the 2nd group of patrons upon entering.
We got the kids a cheeseburger. The pricing of their burgers range from $9.50 to $15.50, which is the pricing for just the burgers and no sides. Additional offerings are skillet sandwiches, hot dog, and wings.
Bathrooms are single. Just “okay” maintained but just at opening, the toilet paper was empty.
It didnt seen busy as mentioned before, we were the only 2nd patrons in the place with the 1st being a couple. I wasn’t sure how long before they were there before us but couldn’t be that long since they opened at 11. Our order was placed at 12:08pm. Our food did not come out till 12:47pm. The couple before us inquired when their food would be out multiple times but end up not waiting as they mentioned they had to be somewhere at 1pm. They requested and received their refund and left.
There were 3 groups than came in shortly after us as well. I overheard 2 of them saying it was their first time too. The slow delivery of the food seemed to also bother other patrons as well inquiring how long it would be. I dont mind the wait, I just hope it was worth it. Unfortunately it wasn’t.
I believe one of the food runners delivered a child burger to another adult patron who was confused. They corrected it and handed it over to the next table without remaking it despite her touching it. I guess the kid was so hungry after waiting for so long and he ate it.
My kids were voicing their hunger while waiting. When we finally got our food, which was the Truffle Banger, OG Dog, 2 kids burgers, and truffle fries. It was VERY clear that the fries were done 30 minutes ago and had been sitting there until the burgers were done. The truffle oil made the fries very very soggy and the fries were Luke warm / cool. Because we were so hungry, we ate it anyway. I also dont tend to make a fuss and the kids ate it. I think the fries would have been good if they were brought out fresh. It should’ve been brought out when it was done. At least it could have served as an appetizer. We inhaled are food quickly due to our hunger and needing to be at an event as well.
The couple after us voiced their frustration about their order. Wouldn’t be surprised the rest if the other patrons did too at our departure.
Things to note: No complimentary water. Bottled water and drinks, canned soda are $1.50. It is order at the counter and food is delivered to your table, may not be accurate. Clear your own table.
The Truffle Banger was reported to be their best one on the menu but there wasn’t much a Truffle or any at all(?). One slice of their halal bacon. It was good but not amazing. My husband had the hot dog and he said it was just fine. No further comments on it. My kids ate the kids burger.
Overall the food was fine but for the premium price, it wasn’t necessarily worth the wait. The workers were nice but unfortunately, the first impression did not go well and unclear if ill patron the establishment again. I hope your experience is better.
