Tried Urban Skillet and I love seeing a young woman building her own Southern cooking brand I had the fried shrimp, mac & cheese, candied yams, and potato salad — and listen… those yams were SLAMMING
You can definitely see the growth and potential. It’s getting better each time, and I’m excited to see where she takes it.

First time getting takeout and I was very impressed. The hot and cold items were kept temperature controlled until I arrived. I got the 2 piece fried chicken platter with green beans and mashed potatoes, and banana pudding for dessert. Everything was very well seasoned. The chicken had a bit of a kick without being too spicy, and the pieces were larger than you would get at a chain fast food restaurant. The cornbread was moist, not crumbly. The traditional banana pudding had fresh slices of banana with classic vanilla wafers. I felt the price point was appropriate for the quality of the food, at $16 for the platter and $6 for the pudding.

Overall? This place is LEGIT.

• Jerk Chicken – 10/10
Perfect seasoning, cooked right, full flavor.
• Seafood Duo (Catfish & Shrimp) – 10/10
Fried perfectly, seasoned right, no grease overload.
• Oxtails – 8/10
Not bad at all — I’m just raised different on oxtails.
• Baked Mac & Cheese – 5/10
Not nasty, just not real baked mac. Still edible.
• Collard Greens – 8.5/10
Solid flavor — again, I’m raised different.
• Southern Green Beans – 10/10
Cooked exactly how they’re supposed to be.
• Mashed Potatoes – 10/10 (GASSS)

I was surprised at shredded chicken with barbecue sauce on it. I was expecting real chicken wings. I feel like I was lied to. The mac&cheese, yams, and green beans were absolutely delicious. My biggest complaint was about the complimentary corn bread smelled spoiled and old. I’m glad I didn’t eat it. I don’t know why it was ignored. The smell was strong. People need to do better at food so that they don’t have lawsuits against them for food intolerance hospitalizations.
