We did a Valentine’s Day brunch here, and were glad we chose the Urban Farmer of all the choices we had in Portland. My wife had the steak and eggs with potatoes and an English muffin that my she said was fabulous and tasty! I had the salad with the salmon and a delicious fruity vinaigrette. As a supporter of Sea Shepherd (UK), I appreciated the sustainably and responsibly sourced food. A shout out to our server Kendall for being warm and welcoming.
One
Friday night dinner: Great table and long banquettes under the video art installation—a seasonal lake scene.
Thoughtful flavor combinations and elegant plating.
Gateway into the meal: The Tender Greens salad—great texture with frilly greens, carrot ribbons, crunchy quinoa, and balanced honey-sherry vinaigrette. Paired beautifully with the Jaques Robin Champagne.
Cornbread in upright presentation (good for pulling apart) was a bit too sweet for my taste.
Loved the Pan-Seared Scallops: the flavor combo allowed the scallop queens to shine. The black garlic sauce was visually stunning and added a tangy balance to the buttery scallops.
Fantastic pairing: The local Domaine Divio Chardonnay with excellent minerality, acid, and dryness.
My husband had the Carlton Farms Pork Chop—a meat eater’s delight…massive. this paired so well with the earthy Bow and Arrow Gamay (I 100% had to try that combo!)
We love Tokaji dessert wines. Ordered the Royal Tokaji and skipped dessert. Aside from being stuffed, a pairing didn’t really stand out.
The service was fantastic: welcoming, attentive, and friendly.
What a great and unusual atmosphere! The restaurant sits in The Nines hotel atrium like wooden puzzle pieces. The sound quality is a winner, with chatter floating into the four-floor open space.
We were playing tourist for the weekend—what a treat to just stagger up to our room after a long, delightful dinner.
Two
French 75 with Empress gin for some writing time in the atrium lounge area.
Three
Saturday late lunch at the bar: BEST fries—crisp, fluffy inside, breathe-out hot.
My husband had the flatbread with a local Hazy. I had the hummus with a Sébastian Brunet sparkling rosé. Really appreciated the bartender opening a new bottle .

Our final Urban Farmer stop was after dinner at Departure Lounge. We sat in one of the glass “cubicles,” and relaxed into the velvet couch. MacKenzie our server took us on a Chartreuse adventure with Verte neat and on ice, June, and with no arm twisting at all, a Last Word cocktail—amazing Chartreuse, Amsterdam gin drink. We talked Chartreuse history. Thank you, MacKenzie for creating such a fun experience for us.
Thanks, Urban Farmer staff for four great experiences!
Was a bit bummed they weren’t doing beef wellingtons tonight.
Oysters ⭐
– very expensive and very small for how bad it tasted
Beet salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
– exactly what you’d want for a beet salad
– love the sauce
– perfectly selected beets
♥️Salmon with quinoa ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
– love how crispy this is
– love the sauce they poured over it
– quinoa was the perfect pairing for this
14 oz grain fed ny steak ⭐⭐✨
– just ok
– excellent execution but way too salty
– for something at this price I feel like it should come with one side for free because it’s so over seasoned
The art and design of the space is pleasant and relaxing.
I enjoyed the fried calamari and the deviled eggs appetizers. I enjoyed a tasty brownie and ice cream dessert.
There is a full bar. There are spaces for teleworking.
I hope to return for a weekend brunch.
Good choice of bread. Even egg texture. Nice cheese. Again it is a good sandwich but the price is out there.
The next morning I went and sat at the restaurant for breakfast. I ordered a pastry basket that came with butter and jam. I also asked to see a menu for breakfast drinks (teas, coffees) but was told they didn’t have one. I ordered a single espresso anyhow.
The pastry basket came (nearly 30 minutes later) and had five mini pastries, all of which had chocolate or fruit filling. The pastries themselves were lovely but… what an odd menu decision, truly. Butter and jam didn’t make sense on any of them.
The first espresso was burnt, and one of the staff kindly brought me a different one. Then the check came and I saw a $7 charge for it. A single shot. Which is exactly why I’d asked for a drink menu in the first place!
An underwhelming experience with a price tag.
