The food was AMAZING. I had the Island Shrimp Bowl and a custom bowl — the honey jerk chicken, black-eyed pea salad, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and curry chickpeas were all incredible.
Friendly staff, great vibes, and food that truly delivers. I highly recommend going (try weekdays if possible due to crowds).
Support Black-owned businesses — this one is doing something special.
So after the hype died down I went over to try it to see what it was all about. Cause my vegan friend told me him and his wife tried it and it was just okay.
Small place with no seating, and concerning the tiny parking lot is HORRIBLE!!!
Food was pretty good IMHO but the service was blah plus my blackened salmon took forever to come out. I understand it’s probably made to order but it took over 15 minutes to complete the process. So you might want to order ahead if you don’t want to wait.
They have 3 size bowls and the blackened salmon is the extra $4, if you want extra sauce that’s an additional cost as well.
I guess I’m used to Cava…
I honestly only went to try this for my son-in-law so I can let them know how the food was in case they drive down from Anaheim to try it.
If you want to try it I would say give it a shot and see what you think you might like it. For me it probably will be a one and done
I ordered a build-your-own bowl with jollof rice and suya beef, and everything was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The ingredients tasted high-quality, and the portions were generous.
I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jenelle, who was incredibly sweet and welcoming. It’s always nice to support a Black-owned business that puts so much heart into the food and the experience.
If you’re looking for comfort foods inspired by the African diaspora, this spot is definitely worth trying. I’ll be back!
I’m someone who genuinely loves and understands Nigerian and Jamaican food, so I came in with high expectations, especially for the Caribbean Bliss bowl. Unfortunately, the jollof rice missed the mark. Instead of tasting like jollof, it came across as plain rice with red sauce, very bland. The addition of beans, sweet potato slices, and fried okra with minced garlic felt creative, but for me, those elements clashed and threw the flavor off rather than enhancing it. I respect the idea of thinking outside the box, but the execution landed in a box of blandness.
The Caribbean Jerk Bliss wasn’t much better, though I can see the potential. I’ve heard a lot about this place through social media, and while I know things can slip during a rush, the hype set expectations that weren’t met. Lately, it feels like a lot of spots in LA are being overhyped online, and this experience unfortunately fit that pattern.
That said, this isn’t the end for me. I’m open to coming back, trying different menu items, and possibly building my own bowl. I want this place to succeed, and I hope they tighten things up moving forward, but for now, this just wasn’t it.
I will say my biggest challenge with my experience was the wait in line was over a hour and there was only 11 people in front of me. I understand there is a hype right now and they are busy due to social media buzz but they need to better prepared to handle the crowd and move a little faster. They took way too long with each customer and there were times when the cashier walked away from the register and was gone for 5 minutes at a time.. we intentionally timed her and people were just sitting there waiting to pay. I feel with a few corrections in this regard, the experience would be a lot better. I noticed everybody in line said it was their first time there I didn’t noticed anybody who said they had returned or previous ate there. Not entirely sure I would be back either.
