If you’re looking for some fresh sushi from chefs who have excellent knife skills, COME HERE!
The atmosphere is quaint, the food is superbly tasty, and the place has lovely vibe. Also, if you’re a Wasabi snob like me, it’s real (not like those other restaurants that are passing horseradish off as wasabi )
The next time I’m back in Seattle, I’ll be sure to visit again 10/10

Easily some of the best sushi and miso soup in downtown Seattle. I’ve been exploring sushi spots all over the heart of the city, and Urara is one of my favorites. It’s a hole in the wall type of cozy place, the fish is amazing and the servings are large, the team is incredibly kind and hard working, prices are very reasonable, and I love how close it is to Pike Place. On rainy nights, eating sushi at the bar with a book is one of my favorite things to do. Whether you come with friends or on your own, you’re sure to have a good time and leave happy and satisfied.

At first glance, this place may look like just another hole in the wall seafood restaurant. But it couldn’t be further from that. It is small and a reservation is highly recommended here. But if you get the chance to experience the masterpieces of the artist behind the counter you will not be disappointed. The service was quickThe food was exquisite, and I would one hundred percent eat here almost every day if I possibly could. Stopping through the area on vacation. This is a must have it is authentic. As can be and the flavor is unmatched. Cannot wait to come back and the friendly staff here is always welcoming to anybody. It is a great environment and a very peaceful place to be.

Urara is a small gem near Pike Place Market where the chef prepares fresh sushi right in front of you. The daily specials including the Uni, were fantastic, and the omakase was truly memorable; crafted with care and attention to detail. The quality of the fish was outstanding, every bite clean and flavorful. It was also easy to grab a spot for a late sushi lunch for two while exploring the market. A must-visit for sushi lovers.

Came across Urara today. Wife and (HS aged) kids had a very pleasant time. It’s cozy (10 at the bar and 3x 2-tops). We were invited to sit at the bar giving us dinner and a show as the chef prepared the sushi in front of us. The sushi was very good. They also have bowls. Youngest got the Unage Bowl and we all thought he might have edged us out on best dish. Very likely to be back before we head back home.

Chirashi all the way. Chef’s choice of an assortment of fish. I got tuna, salmon, scallop, squid and shrimp. The scallop was absolutely my favorite! The tuna was amazing and usually how you can tell the fish is fresh (because tuna really shows). The salmon was great too. Very pleased with my bowl and felt super full and satisfied after.

A hidden gem near Pike’s Place Market. We had several rolls, nigiri, miso soup, edamame, and udon noodles. Everything was incredible. This was genuinely one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had and very similar to some of my favorite places in Japan. Highly recommended.

Highly recommend a visit to Urara is you’re looking for a great sushi spot near Pike Place Market! We ordered a few rolls and the omakase sashimi for lunch and it did not disappoint. The omakase comes with miso soup too. The portion sizes were large and we left feeling very satisfied. They also have gluten free tamari sauce. If you’re gluten intolerant make sure to ask for a server for it as it’s not listed on their menu.

The experience:
This is a small cozy place, with maybe 15-16 tables. We got in and were seated at the bar. The chef initially was quiet, but after we started asking some questions he turned out to be super friendly, we found out he is actually from Japan, and we had an interesting conversation about where he got his knifes (in portland).
Even if a little shy in the beginning, he explains what is each fish, and prepares it with mastery and care.
The food
The fish was fresh, the rice was very good.
For individual pieces the rice was warm, which shows it is an actual good sushi place.
For the nigiri, as they all come at once and take a few minutes to prepare, the rice was not as warm.
The nigiri included a variety of fish, which I liked a lot, most of them had some kind of topping like uni, ikura, sauce, scallions, etc.
The sashimi samples were great to try different fishes, super fresh, flavourful and great textures.
As a point of improvement I would suggest maybe the chef adding some good soy sauce to some of the pieces, making the omakase experience even better. Maybe some flaky salt could be good on some of them!
As a recommendation, I would not get any rolls. I don’t think they would be bad, but I think the chirashi (fish over rice) brings so much more value to the experience, and for a fair price.
