We live two hours away, but we may still come back there sometime
The first time we went it was for lunch on a Saturday. There was another table, but they were pretty slow. The waitress just seemed pissed that she had our table. We were never offered refills on our drinks, and she never checked on us after dropping the food. We were joking that its good we didn’t need anything because she might yell at us for asking.
We went back a few months later, again on a Saturday afternoon. Mostly empty dining room. My SIL ordered and salad and asked what dressings they had. The server was snotty and said “we have them all just pick” she was super short with everyone, and again no drink refills. When the food came out she asked who had a certain meal and my FIL said “I think that’s me” and she SNAPPED “no you got X!” We were all a bit taken back. Not a great way to introduce our family to the otherwise overly town of Montrose.
We should have learned our lesson, but no we went back again tonight. We had the same server who is just plain not nice. When we sat she was at another table admonishing the guy for wanting lettuce on his warm sandwich… I literally wanted to leave before we even sat down. I put on my best smile and used all my manners, she was still visibly annoyed at everything I said. I ordered a diet Pepsi, my S/O said coke, she snapped at him that they have Pepsi products. He was actually stunned and didn’t know what to say for a moment. When she took my order it was like she wrote 2 full sentences and I didnt ask for anything special or substitutions. Well, my food was wrong. I was actually afraid to say anything, which was fine because she never came back. I ate my incorrect meal and slowly sipped my drink knowing no refill would be offered. She came over with the check after about 25 minutes and that was that.
I read multiple reviews and they’re mostly good. There’s a few that mention what we’ve experienced though. Like I said, we’ve gone 3x over a 9 month period and always the same off-putting service.
This review is for a weekend evening between the hours of 6-8 pm. The restaurant was not busy.
During this visit we ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, and we each ordered cheeseburgers (I’ve really been on a burger kick lately), one with regular fries and one with curly fries. The appetizers only took a few minutes to be delivered to our table and were fried perfectly with the burgers coming out somewhere between 10-15 minutes after ordering. These are perfectly acceptable time frames. The curly fries were a hair overcooked while the regular fries were a little under but still satisfying. The burgers themselves were of good proportion and perfectly average. If it were just the food that made the review this would have probably been a 4 star experience. Unfortunately our experience with the staff was not as great.
Walking into this restaurant is a little confusing for a customer whom has never been here before. The foyer splits into two separate dining areas, one tiny, one large. We were not greeted by anyone at the door so we took it upon ourselves to find the other half of our party who had arrived earlier. While looking we found ourselves in the path of the sole waitress on shift this evening. We politely apologized for briefly slowing her down and while she was walking away she delivered an offensive offhanded remark that really caught me off guard.
We took our seats with the rest of our party and within just a few moments that waitress was at our table. She barely spoke, and when we explained we would need just a few moments to look at the menu she gave us a look of disgust and was off to another task without saying so much as a word to us. She again said nothing when she came back to the table, had no input while we were giving our order, and overall made us feel like we were a huge inconvenience to her evening. There were three tables occupied in the entire restaurant during this whole exchange.
Her tune finally started to change when the food started coming out. Now suddenly she was talking and trying to be helpful. She stayed cordial for the rest of the visit. I have to assume the only explanation for this is that the addition of a third table to her workload overwhelmed her and was too much for her to handle. Waiting tables can be stressful and sometimes very overwhelming, but this behaviour is absolutely not the way to handle that stress.
It has been a very long time since a business has made me feel as unwelcome as the first half of my visit to Uptown Grill felt and experiences like that are not soon forgotten. While the food was fine, I would not recommend this establishment based on this experience.
I don’t know what it is –
but that food used to be really good.
Now it’s not as good as it used to be not as appealing as it used to be, but I do know I have to run to the restroom almost immediately after consuming this food it’s worse than going to McDonald’s or one of those fast food joints that run right through you
