Upscale spot for American fare & cocktails with relaxed ambiance & a swanky, convivial bar.

Have been long time customers, stayed loyal through ownership change. Got a carry out tonight, salmon croquettes that have been my favorite for years. Always the best mixed vegetables and wild/brown well seasoned rice and of course the 2 large delicious croquettes loaded with salmon. Tonight 7/5/24, 2 mini croquettes loaded with bread crumbs or some sort of filler, no salmon aroma or flavor. The outside crust has changed and not for the better. 3 small stalks of totally unseasoned limp broccolini and a glob of sticky, also unseasoned white rice finished the worst meal ever at what has been one of our go to restaurants. Of course the prices have increased, as all dining establishments have, however the obvious decision to reduce the serving sizes and quality dramatically makes it a sad but necessary decision to eliminate the Uptown from the place we knew we could support and always enjoy the experience. Even the fact we had a carry out could in no way justify the meal. My wife’s burger was only fair with no flavor. Such a shame!

Uptown Cafe is a hidden gem that proves you don’t need flashy decor to make a lasting impression. With an understated, classic interior that feels warm and unpretentious, this spot lets the food—and the heart behind it—shine.
Every dish we tried was well prepared and simply great – with soulful flavor and comforting quality. I met the owners and their son who are warm kind people and genuinely stand behind their food.
Whether it’s their signature dishes like the stuffed mushrooms or chicken piccata, you can tell there’s a family behind this venue.
I will also say, the service is a standout—welcoming, efficient, and refreshingly down-to-earth. From the moment we walked in, we felt like regulars. It’s clear the staff here takes pride in creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They truely want you to have a lovely experience.
Uptown Cafe is a rare find: a neighborhood favorite, soulful cooking, and a laid-back vibe that would keep you coming back. Highly recommend for anyone seeking great food without the fuss!

Great atmosphere, service and the food was delicious! My glass of water was never empty and our waitress Ashley was phenomenal. I’m a vegetarian and they had so many options on the menu. I had the vegetable stir-fry with fried tofu and it was so good [Pictured below]. It is a tad on the pricey side but you get big portions with lots of flavor. The clientele was older but it was not a problem.

I really love what Uptown did to the place with their remodel. It feels much more modern now. We had dinner there and the food was very good. The service at the bar was also really good, friendly bartenders which is a plus. It’s an older crowd that does here, but I would recommend it for younger diners, as well. Keep on doing what you are doing!

Nice place, but the food and the cocktails are nothing special. It wasn’t a good value and I doubt I’ll be back.
My jagerschnitzel was good, but I’ve had better at half the price.

My wife and I stopped him on a date night to have a cocktail. We were both overly impressed with the environment and the cocktails. This is one of the places that has still kept a reasonable price point on some good craft cocktails. Can’t wait to go back there for dinner

Really enjoyed this restaurant; visited for lunch and specifically tried it because they had a menu labeled with gluten free options. The chips and queso appetizer was the best I’ve ever had and I’ll likely be back for that alone. Fish tacos were OK, seasoning was a little different than I am used to, but put together well. Friend had the stir fry and loved it. Staff was friendly and indoor atmosphere was really nice, with a patio area outside. The highlands area parking and traffic area always less than friendly, but a great option in the area.

One of my favorite restaurants in Louisville. Very cute, classy, and romantic atmosphere, perfect for a date night. The fried green tomatoes were okay, but the lemon chicken pasta was fantastic and the beef tenderloin dinner was phenomenal. Prices were reasonable.

First impressions were good, super friendly people with a very relaxed atmosphere. The draft beer selection was minimal but plenty of delicious looking cocktails. I had the Basa Fish Tacos, the texture was great but lacked in seasoning, very bland. My wife had the Jagerschnitzel which was fantastic! Very tender, cooked perfect and the mashed potatoes were amazing. All together it was a good place to visit in one of the best spots in Louisville.
