Beautiful rooftop with an amazing city view. The drinks were creative and really good, and the service was excellent. They also have outdoor heaters and provide blankets if it gets cold, which is a nice touch. The only downside was the food — it was just okay. Overall, a great place for drinks and the atmosphere.

Stayed at the Gwen which includes breakfast for both days. We also came by in the afternoon. The outdoor terrace is quite nice, the heat lamps keep the chill away. There’s also a mini curling game. The views from the terrace is breathtaking especially in the evening. The staff is very accommodating, seating us with ample heat sources. There are TV’s which is perfect to watch college football games. Now the food:
– Pork Belly fried rice: tastes a bit weird, there’s sour ingredient that tastes like kimchi.
– Avocado toast: the sour cream kinda ruined it for us
– American breakfast: good
– Fennel sausage flatbread: very good
– Chicago dog: excellent
– Mulled wine: very good
– Gin & tonic: good

Going back to my drafts I realized I never posted this amazing food I had on the rooftop of The Gwen in Chicago. It is quintessentially what I would imagine rooftop happy hours should be when you’re living in the city. The kind of stuff I fantasize about what life would be like living there. Beautiful views, great food, a DJ playing some great background music, fire pits, TVs, comfy seating, it had it all. It was such a perfect backdrop in place to unwind watching the sunset after a long road trip into the city. If the wind picks up or weather isn’t cooperating, they had a beautiful indoor space as well. This pasta was perfectly cooked, the shrimp dish was such a generous portion, and the cocktails were deliciously balanced. If there weren’t so many amazing spots to check out in Chicago, I would love to go back. If you’re lucky enough to live in Chicago, you might want to put this on your regular rotation.

We sat on the open rooftop for drinks and dessert. The views were amazing, heated fire pits made the temperature comfortable on a chilly night. The mocktails are great compared to other areas I tried mocktails in the city. The desserts were outstanding!

Nice outdoor terrace for dinner and/or drinks. The food was good, along with the service. (They were short staffed and the manager stepped in to help his servers, which was nice to see.)

The inside area has tables and bar seating. The outside terrace has tables and couch seating, with some couches equipt with firepits. I highly recommend making reservations for either one because you can specifically reserve them, and they fill up quickly online.

Food is reasonably priced for that area of the city, and so were some of the drinks. However, wine and premium liquors were very expensive.

Overall, it’s a great place to go.

Had brunch at the Gwen and had a fun time. The view and seating area outside on the terrace was amazing. I ordered the Smoked Salmon & Bagel and it was delicious, highly recommend it. Nice hotel connected to the restaurant on the inside as well.

**”Exceptional Service and a Memorable Dining Experience”**

We had the pleasure of dining at ”The Gwen” restaurant recently and were blown away by the exceptional service and delightful ambiance. Judie, our hostess, was nothing short of amazing. She went above and beyond to accommodate us for a lovely night on the patio, ensuring we had a perfect spot to enjoy the evening.

Michael Ortiz, our server, provided superb service throughout the night. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was simply outstanding—starting with the crispy Brussels sprouts, which were perfectly seasoned, to the flavorful burrata toast, and finishing with the delicious salmon that was cooked to perfection.

The combination of the excellent food, the inviting atmosphere, and the exceptional service from Judie and Michael made for an unforgettable night. We can’t wait to return!

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea- Disappointing and Not Worth the Price
We brought our mom here for Mother’s Day tea and were really disappointed, especially given the high price- even more than what we paid at the Ritz a couple years ago.

The event was in a windowless, undecorated room, with a DJ playing loud music that made it hard to talk. The drinks were “bottomless,” but we sat with empty glasses for 20+ minutes because the bar was “backed up”- even though the room wasn’t full. The tea kettle had just one tea bag floating inside, tag and all.

The food looked nothing like the photos- no scones or sandwiches, just deep-fried snacks and grocery store pastries thrown on a tiered tray. No napkins, no linens – nothing special.

Our server was sweet and did the best he could with what he had. Not his fault. But overall, this felt more like a cash grab than a luxury experience. Definitely not what you’d expect from a hotel like The Gwen.

Awful awful awful!!! Avoid the high tea experience- our group left feeling scammed!

Very disorganized, they had no idea what package we purchased and had to reconfirm it a number of times as well as having to remind them of our friends dietary restriction.

We paid $120 A PERSON!! for some nasty boozed tea, that none of us was able to drink. Pumped with sugar and just not tasty.

The tower?! Literally all deep friend and sugary snacks… we didn’t even touch it. It was supposed to be bottomless. We asked more for the savory items but they only came back with 2 of the items and said this is all they have left!!! Unacceptable

On top of the $120 we paid PER PERSON! We had to order brunch food bc the hightea experience was not filling and left ALOT to be desired.

Truly disappointing! Stay far away, spend your money elsewhere.

People were all nice though

The staff at Tipsy Tea were incredible – we had one participant who is gluten free (and completely forgot to mention in advance) and the staff went above and beyond to provide her with a full spread of gluten free treats and comped her tea tower meal since she could not eat any of the typical tower food. Definitely recommend for a girls day!!
