I cannot believe I have waited so long to experience Up on Market!

We went during the week, and were the only ones in there for a good bit of time.

As soon as you walk in the door you are transported to France. The history of the building is proudly printed on one side of a menu.

We had the pleasure of spending time with the co-owner, and got some great additional information. The chairs you will sit in are antiques, some dating back 100 years, some are from Poland.

The lentil salad, cappuccino and hash were exquisite!

If you are looking for a staycation, then this is your go-to to! They offer a continental breakfast, and choice of coffee, cappuccino and tras to overnight guests.

The mixed drinks are poured and measured so you get the same incredible drink every time you order!

Do not wait, try them out as soon as possible! Full menu, including brunch, available all day!!! No need to wait for the weekend to brunch!!

From the moment we stepped into Up on Market Bistro & Inn, we were immersed in perfection. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and refined, with an immaculate antique interior design that feels both timeless and thoughtfully curated. Every detail reflects elegance and care, creating a truly memorable setting.

The food was absolutely delicious—beautifully presented, rich in flavor, and clearly crafted with passion. Each dish felt intentional, comforting, and elevated, making the dining experience exceptional from start to finish. The staff was equally remarkable: attentive, gracious, and genuinely welcoming, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth.

What truly set this experience apart was the personal touch from the owner, Francis Skrobiszewski. A very elegant and distinguished gentleman, he personally came to our table to share the charming and rich history of the building and the restaurant. His storytelling added depth and soul to the experience, making us feel like honored guests rather than just patrons.

Up on Market Bistro & Inn is not just a restaurant—it’s an experience rooted in history, elegance, and heartfelt hospitality. We will absolutely be returning and recommending it without hesitation.

We went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The place is on the pricer side but, the quality of the food was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff and owner were extremely friendly. Everything we got was absolutely delicious. There is not a single thing I would hesitate to order again. The Crab Bisque had large pieces of jumbo lump crab and had a generous amount of it. The duck entree was absolutely amazing. Was not the fastest service but this was fine by us as we went out to enjoy a long leisurely romantic dinner. Look forward to the next time.

This place has a very lively atmosphere, beautiful silverware. The chairs near the window are incredibly uncomfortable but the other chairs look plenty comfy. The french toast is very puffy and the perfect flavor. The seafood omelette was cooked well and the seafood tasted fresh not frozen.
Desserts, the chocolate cake is not sweet at all, very dark chocolate taste. The almond cake was also very good not too sweet either.
There was a spider in my raspberry i dont mind but it would be the right thing to let others know.

Transcendent and transportave. I have been to the best French corner spots in DC, and the best in Paris. This one hits all the right notes of both. Missed pictures of the appetizers, as we often do when excited about a meal. But landed two good pics of our perfectly cooked fillets. I chose au poivre and he chose bearnaise. From the frittes to the Brussels to the dreamy au gratin potatoes everything was amazing. We were there for lunch eating like it was a Friday night because we are both industry and don’t get the chance to take dinners out on weekends. We skipped dessert but opted for espressos at the end of a perfect meal. Francis the owner was warm and welcoming. Chris, our host/server/bartender was exceptional and the drinks were perfect. If you want a meal that will make you forget your day to day life, I suggest walking through the curtains at the front door and letting yourself be carried away.

We had the pleasure of staying at the charming Up On Market Inn and were blown away by the bistro’s food and atmosphere—from delicious, artfully prepared breakfasts to relaxed, friendly late-night drinks at the bar.

We loved it so much, we had breakfast two days in a row—and each morning was just as exceptional as the last. The omelets were perfectly cooked—light, fluffy, and filled with fresh ingredients. One had savory mushrooms and melted cheese, while another featured ham and cheddar, both served with crispy roasted potatoes, a fresh dressed salad, and toasted baguette slices that paired perfectly with their creamy herb dressing.

The Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon was a standout, topped with silky hollandaise, briny capers, and paper-thin red onions. The accompanying greens added a perfect fresh contrast to the rich flavors.

We also ordered a Mediterranean-style starter with grilled pita, creamy hummus topped with pomegranate seeds and herbs, and fresh carrot and cucumber sticks—delicious and beautifully presented.

Late-night drinks at the bar were equally enjoyable. The vibe was relaxed but refined, with a creative cocktail menu and a bartender who made us feel right at home.

From the quality of the food to the warm, attentive service, everything was top-notch. Whether you’re staying at the inn or just visiting Frederick, Up On Market Bistro is a must-visit—we can’t wait to come back!

The food is pretty good here, but not good enough to justify the prices. I got the venison with a cream sauce which was quite good but the potato side dish was very basic and tasted reheated. I was also very disappointed that the fried asparagus appetizer was listed at $15 on the menu but I was charged $17 and was also charged a processing fee that wasn’t disclosed anywhere on the menu or at any point prior to checking out. With the menu prices being as high as they already are, it is just unacceptable to have numerous “surprises” like this in the bill. Service was friendly, but was also unacceptably slow. I still enjoyed the food and drinks, but I wouldn’t spend this kind of money again for what I received.

Up on Market is my favorite restaurant. The food is excellent! Today’s menu choice was the lentil salad, venison, and asparagus. The venison was perfectly cooked – very tender in a delicious sauce. Sides were complimentary and as I am GF – the almond cake for dessert was and has always been delicious. The service is great. The atmosphere is lovely.

The old world European charm of this restaurant we fell in love with and the slower pace allowed us to really enjoy our evening. Food was excellent we feel we could dine here nightly and life would be grand.
Francis the owner spoke with us and found my wife is also Polish like him. So he put on Polish music from WWII era and we had a lovely time celebrating our anniversary. I had meatloaf and she had chicken, each was $26, very reasonable for a dinner plate. This has to be the most charming restaurant in Frederick. One of a kind place that is now our top choice.
