UP in Smoke BBQ with the best footlong chili dog I’ve ever had! Fresh bun, cheese sauce, a great smoked footlong hot dog, topped with smoked chili and a great slaw! It was absolutely amazing!!! You can get it with one of their amazing sides if you wish but this is a giant meal all by itself!

The dry rub and smoke on the ribs was good–they were also decently moist. The brisket which was chopped small and served in a crock was dry and seemingly flavorless. The chicken quarter which had a good smoke was slathered with an unnecessary BBQ sauce. We weren’t a fan of any of the sauces. They were all too sweet, and there was no dimension to any of them. Service was pretty quick considering how busy and understaffed they were. The server was also the food runner, cashier, and bartender. Kudos to her for her amazing hustle! The ambience was pretty underwhelming which honestly doesn’t even register with me if the food blows me away. But alas, it was pretty average. The sides were good ♀️ But, I seek out BBQ for the meat. The prices were fair for the amount of food we got. We must have just come on an off-day.

I hosted the reception for a wedding Up in Smoke catered. They were AMAZING!! They arrived early, introduced themselves and went over the plan in detail, were incredibly professional, served excellent food, and even took time to interact with the kids who were hanging around the kitchen area. I would absolutely recommend them for catering. I have worked with lots of caterers and Up in Smoke really stands out.

As someone from the south, I must say that Iowa does BBQ right! The brisket was incredibly tender, and absolutely ripe full of flavor. The chicken wings were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside with the seasonings giving it an irresistible flavor. The cornbread + honey butter combo was so good I felt like I was eating dessert! The Mac n Cheese noodles were a bit too tender for my personal taste, but the flavor and breadcrumb crust on top was great. Overall I cannot recommend this place enough, and wish I had more time in Cedar Rapids so I could go back!

Wonderful bbq. My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday after seeing they had an all you can eat buffet on Saturday nights. This gave us an opportunity to try almost everything on the menu. Ribs, wings, Mac and cheese, corn bread, and the baked beans were among all my favorites but you really couldn’t go wrong. What a great place in the Czech Village in Cedar Rapids!

We got a pickup order for a party. So much food – and it was so good! Beans are amazing. Brisket and pulled pork excellently done. My only complaint would have been that we didn’t have enough buns… But then we found another package in the car! My mistake. So, it was a great office party lunch!

Great food, friendly service, and some good music playing. The pork ribs were outstanding, the wings were tasty. They have 2 for 1 happy hour as well. I also got to try the cornbread. I am not one to usually order cornbread, but it is moist and tasted amazing especially with the jam.

We’re 1st timers. Still sitting in our booth at Up in Smoke. May have eaten a little too much, and I can only blame them;) Had 2 meat, 2 sides to share & taste (beef, pork, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw and a LOAF of cornbread). All yummy!!

Should be listed as a national treasure for their cornbread. It doesn’t even need their butter or jam. Ribs were fall off the bone and the brisket was the best I’ve had in the general CR/IC area. Sauces could use some work but that’s it.

Went to Up In Smoke on a Saturday afternoon, not busy inside. I ordered brisket nachos ($10) and my girlfriend ordered a roasted chicken hindquarter ($7) and mac and cheese ($3). The nachos I’ve received were enormous and beautiful, with generous brisket, house made pickled jalapeños, house made sour cream, and house made chips. My meal was delicious, and would recommend to anyone. My girlfriend’s chicken was smoked to perfection, with a semi-sweet skin, and the inside perfectly moist. The serving was generous for her also, and the mac and cheese paired well with it. We ordered cornbread ($3) on our way out, which proved to be as delicious the next day as it was fresh. All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone, the prices are superb, the food excellent, and the service wonderful.
