I have been to Unplugged several times and we always have a great time. Great selection of games and food for everyone. Today we tried to play Stardew Valley the board game and made it through half a season, haha. We will always be back, especially for the grilled cheese.

This place is one of a kind. Unplugged is one of the first places I started hanging out at when I moved to Richmond in 2023. From the start, everyone I met—staff and patrons alike—was super welcoming. Since then, I’ve met some of my closest friends here through countless board game nights filled with laughter and memories. This place truly like its own little community.

The staff here are top-notch—and so is their knowledge of board games. Don’t want to read the instruction manual? No problem: a friendly staff member will be right over to explain the rules and answer any questions you have.

The food is pretty standard pub grub, but always served fresh and hot and with a smile!

The selection of board games is impressive, with over 1,000 different games to choose from and enjoy. You will never get bored!

If you have the chance, PLEASE check out this hidden gem!!! You won’t be disappointed.

We had a great time here! Laid back atmosphere, more focused on the games than the bar kind of atmosphere. We were glad there wasn’t loud music so that we could hear each other.

They are very thoughtful about gluten free! I ordered the gluten free chicken tenders (some of the best I’ve had!) with tater tots. I didn’t realize the tots had gluten, just wasn’t paying attention, and they came over to check with me and ask if I wanted something else. I was so grateful for that! They also have a dedicated gluten free fryer, which makes this celiac safe from what I can tell.

It’s also nice that you can order your food and game passes from the table, but there are staff who come around and make sure you’re taken care of.

We will definitely be back!

What a hidden gem! My friends and I came to enjoy some games and lunch and ended up staying for about four hours. The staff are phenomenal. They took the time to explain how everything works, including their game difficulty rating system. We stuck to easier, nostalgic games, so we didn’t need much help, but they were incredibly attentive with other groups, walking them through more challenging games and staying actively engaged with everyone there.

This place is kind of dangerous, solely because every time I leave I do so with anywhere between two and four new games on my To-Buy List!
Fun and relaxed environment. My wife and I love coming here to explore new games (or favorites that our friends have but they’re out of town/unavailable to play/etc.) and we even brought our niece for an afternoon to introduce her to some games more her speed.
Service is timely and the staff are incredibly supportive. They’ll check in regularly and if they see you opening up a game at the table they’ll be there to offer support if you have any questions about the rules or how to play (We tend to just beat our heads against the game until we figure it out, but we love that they always want to make sure everyone is having fun)
The food and drink are standard pub fare; you’ve got your sandwiches and appetizers and such. It’s tasty and consistent – there’s nothing like sharing an app while you’re working your way through the North Sea attempting to raid that outpost!
This place is a must-see if you have any positive feelings towards board games whatsoever. Play, have fun, and see what you want to bring home to your table next!

Everything about Unplugged is amazing. The servers are incredibly sweet and helpful, the games are so much fun as well. Everyone is knowledgable on the game library, and there is something for everyone. The cinnamon sugar popcorn is my personal favorite, and the sweet potato fries are a very close second. The entire place has such a warm community feeling that makes for a perfect rainy day activity. If you are reading the reviews trying to figure out if you want to eat here, definitely try it out.

The boardgame selection was incredible! The food and beer hit the spot. Will definitely be spending time here as much as I can.

The owners are super nice as are the customers. The grilled cheese is banging. There’s a good selection of desserts and drinks, and the selection of games is huge. It’s a great place to spend a rainy Saturday (or any other day). You can even play out on the porch if the weather’s nice. If you’re sensitive to noise and it’s a weekend, I’d recommend sitting on the bar side as it tends to be quieter (or bring some noise reduction ear plugs).

Unplugged Gaming Cafe has kind of become one of those places I keep thinking about even after I leave. The food is surprisingly good for a board game spot, and the prices are reasonable, which is nice when you end up staying longer than planned. I usually go for the burgers and the different popcorn flavors. It sounds simple, but they really do them well. They also have plenty of choices if you’re vegetarian or vegan, so nobody feels stuck ordering the one token salad.

The atmosphere feels cozy and inviting, almost like someone designed it for people who want to relax without feeling rushed. You can sit back with a drink, take your time, and it just works. But honestly, what makes this place stand out is the sheer amount of games they have and the staff who somehow know how to teach any of them without making you feel clueless. Every single person who works there has been kind and patient. They seem genuinely excited to help, which is rare and probably why I keep going back week after week.

If you’re looking for a spot to unwind, play a few board games, maybe discover something new, and just enjoy being there, this is the place. It’s warm, welcoming, and worth returning to.
