Tofu with cashew nuts: Delicious! Crispy fried tofu with a nice sweet sauce 5/5
General Tso Seitan: Disappointing because there were less than 10 pieces and the exterior of each seitan piece was a bit dry and tough to chew. Also such few broccoli pieces. I’m pretty sure the sauce used was the same as the Tofu with cashew nut so this had a sweet touch with the savory seitan. 4/5
Sizzling tofu: Spicy, savory but a bit salty! I wish there were a bit more vegetables with the tofu. I couldn’t really eat the sauce with rice alone because it was too salty. 4/5
Seaweed appetizer: Very dry, I don’t recommend this one 2/5
Sizzling eggplant with king mushroom: This was alright, not as flavorful 4/5
Spicy soy nuggets: I loved this one, it had mild spicy Szechuan flavor and plentiful amounts of veggies with soy protein. I’d get this again! 5/5
A Vegetarian’s Dream Come True
I found myself in Philly a few weeks in a row and I kept coming back to Unit Su Vege. Why? Because they kept nailing it. Every. Single. Time.
From the moment I walked in the second time they recognized me. And yeah, small details like that go a long way. Especially for someone like me who doesn’t often get to walk into a place and order anything on the menu. That’s rare.
The food is absolutely delicious. They’ve got this chili oil right on the table next to the soy sauce, no need to ask, it’s just there. You already know that’s a green flag.
Let me talk about the dumplings and the legendary Tso’s Chicken.
The dumplings? I had them every single time. They come out in a steam tray, hot and perfect. Soft, flavorful, crafted with intention. A must order appetizer for at least
As for the Tso’s Chicken this one blew my mind. It’s their most popular dish and I can see why. I legit had to stop mid meal and double check that it was actually vegetarian but rest assured everything on the menu is.The texture… Dialed in. The sauce? Finger licking good. I haven’t had anything that good since I gave up meat, and no tofu version ever come close. This one? It hits.
Bonus tips…
Get the ginger tea. It’s just a dollar and easily enough to serve multiple times. Light, comforting, and refreshing.
I finished with tiramisu every time. Yes, every time. It’s that good.
The staff is kind, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The owner walks around chatting with people you can tell this place has a strong local following. It’s got soul.
Next time I’m in town, you already know… I’ll be back. There’s still more on that menu I want to try.
This was our first time here, and this restaurant is really worth trying!
We ordered rice dumplings and were okay, not that great but the sizzling tofu was so amazing! Tofu was so crispy on the outside and it was so soft on the inside. The taste was amazing, sauce was good!
The Woodward mushrooms were something u tried for the first time and they tasted so good!
Overall I would visit this place again, they have an amazing vibe.
Bathrooms were clean. Server was great.
They even gave us fortune cookies with the receipt at the end.
Highly recommended for plant-based eaters, weekend museum-goers, and anyone wanting a fresh, vegetarian take on classic Chinese fare.
