Occupying a renovated Colonial warehouse, Union Street Public House has been serving revolutionary American cuisine in a warm and lively atmosphere since 1986. Locals and out-of-towners alike flock to the waterfront location for fresh seafood, grilled steaks, and a taste of Old Town’s favorite tap and grill.

I had heard exceptional reviews regarding this establishment, which prompted my visit. The experience was truly remarkable. We were seated in the bar area, which I would recommend undergoing a thorough deep cleaning to address a lingering odor. However, our server, Eric, provided outstanding service. He was highly attentive, personable, and demonstrated an overall exceptional demeanor. The cuisine was delectable. I regret not capturing a photograph of my shrimp and scallop risotto, which I ordered for takeout, but I assure you it was extraordinarily satisfying. I anticipate returning in the near future.

Adrean, our server, was good, but the food was just ok.
If the menu didn’t say it, I wouldn’t believe that the tacos had chorizo in them, so that was disappointing. The home fries were also a mixed bag, they weren’t crispy which is fine, but some were overcooked. I do appreciate that they were sautéed with pepper and onions, that helped. My friend had the chicken and waffles and thought the waffle was just ok, also. And listen, we weren’t expecting much, but when we asked which of the breakfast “sweet” breads was the best and the waffle, we obliged. But now, I hope the pancakes and french toast are better. All and all, the food was edible and we were not hungry after, so that counts for something

An excellent pub/restaurant in Alexandria. Great food, great atmosphere. I had the scallop and shrimp risotto- fabulous.
Great draft beers, including Guinness. Indoor and outdoor seating. Quiet rear whisky bar. Just a super place.

Came here with an empty stomach and high hopes after a walking tour of Old Town. The ambiance is cool and friendly staff, but my food was horrible. I ordered the special of the day as advertised on the sign outside, which was the Margherita pizza. Oh man what a big choice. Imagine the lunch room pizza you got as a kid in elementary school. That is exactly what they served me. Floppy crust with way too much bad cheese and charged me $16.00. My wife got the crab cake sandwich, which was pretty good. I’m sure a great place for drinks and some limited bar menu items. Just don’t get the Margherita pizza…I implore you!

As a Chef myself, I know how tough kitchen work can be, and I truly want to thank the team behind the scenes. The food was absolutely delicious, 20/10! Special thanks to Peter, our server, who was kind, professional, and made the experience even better. Excellent service all around. I’ll definitely be coming back!
THANK YOU! ️

I wanted to find a place to grab a drink and something nice to eat. I didn’t want a crowded bar scene and I didn’t want typical bar food. I slid into the Public House and Tim and Jennifer took great care of me.
Tim made and Old Fashioned that was perfect! The Oysters Rockefeller was also divine.
The bar side of the place was packed in noisy. But the whiskey bar was perfect. I highly recommend.

Amazing staff! We had a corporate happy hour here and it was a huge hit. The bartenders (Vanessa and Colin) were fantastic and super lovely. The event coordinator Cheryl and the owner Joe are very responsive and so kind. Also a shoutout to another bartender Bruce who was amazing as well. Highly recommend this place – we are already planning to go back. Thank you!!

Overall: 4.75. Charming pub centrally located near all of the sights and in short walking distance from the water. Large bar with multiple dining spaces. Excellent dining experience with outstanding service and delicious appetizers, entrees and desserts. Fish and chips, chicken sandwich on pretzel roll and fresh fries are so tasty. Fresh salads a great starter. Bread pudding is so delicious. Strongly encourage you to support this local business. You won’t be disappointed.

The night before our wedding, we had a fantastic rehearsal dinner at Union Street Public House in Old Town Alexandria and I highly recommend renting/booking space there for any of your special events. We rented the Grill Room on the second floor and the space is perfect for hosting anywhere between 55 to 100 guests. The Grill Room has dark wood furnishings, warm lighting, and a historic, nautical feel to it. The space provided us our own personal bar and bartender (who was fantastic), plenty of room to mingle over cocktails and appetizers, and tables for a seated dinner for our 55 guests. Cheryl Connors, the Events Specialist, is wonderful to work with and assisted us ahead of time with planning what appetizers, meals, and drink options to provide our guests, along with the table floor plan. During the rehearsal dinner itself, Cheryl and her staff were warm, friendly, and the consummate professionals. The food was excellent, the drinks were graciously served throughout the night, and everyone had a fantastic time. I highly recommend Union Street Public House for a rehearsal dinner or other special event you are hosting.
