It’s a smaller place, but the decor and rustic vibe inside is very well done. Music was constantly playing, not too loud, and mainly 70’s/80’s rock hits, so that was a plus.
Our waitress was attentive and friendly, she did a great job of making sure we understood what we were ordering, double checked our preferences, and kept our refills kept up before they ever got empty. Our orders came out quickly, and were hot and fresh.
With the service and atmosphere out of the way (both of which were excellent), I do have to detract a bit for the food itself.
For an appetizer, we ordered the Bacon Ranch Fries, and this was the “worst” part of the food (it wasn’t necessarily bad, but it wasn’t great, either). The menu advertised a ranch sauce, sour cream, jalapenos, cheese, and bacon bits. It did have all of this, but in very sparse amounts compared to what would normally be expected. The fries themselves, while hot and fresh, were larger crinkle-cut fries, and were more on the softer end. The toppings on the appetizer barely covered 1/4 of the fries, even when mixed. The ratios were off, and this caused the appetizer to be ultimately disappointing. My personal recommendation would be to swap to a different fry type (shoestring is typically preferred for something like this), and up the amount of toppings you’re putting on the fries. A significant portion of the fries were plain and unseasoned. Compare this to other local competition and you will find that the appetizers are underperforming, and I suspect they see a lot of leftover fries not being eaten as a result. However, I would also like to point out that I personally am not a fan of crinkle-cut fries unless they are very crispy, so that definitely weighs in on my overall impression. My wife on the other hand loves crinkle-cut fries and agreed that these were underwhelming.
We both ordered the original Steak burgers, dressed the way they come. The burgers, while not the best I’ve had in the county, were good. They were appropriately seasoned and juicy, and came out very hot and fresh. One thing that I liked (my wife did not) was their use of sweet pickles rather than dill pickles on the burger. If you’re a fan of the flavor profile of Wendy’s burgers for this reason, you’ll like these burgers. The potato bun that was used was alright (if not a bit dry), but the bottom bun could not hold together for the time it took me to finish the burger, falling apart and turning to mush before finishing.
I wanted to try their Mac and Cheese, but they were out, so I just got fries (had I know they were crinkle-cut, I would not have) and my wife got a loaded baked potato. The fries, again, were hot and fresh, but I did not eat them due to the reason I stated above. The baked potato was small but loaded, maybe a bit too much sour cream, but I always say that I would prefer a baked potato more loaded than not, so this can come down to preference.
Overall, the experience was a positive one, and I am glad to see more local businesses pop up that we can frequent. We will be coming back to try other things on the menu, and I do hope that with some minor adjustments, this place can become a regular spot for us.
Oh, and they had Coke Zero, which is always a plus in my book.
