I was in a bit of a bind—I forgot my wallet and my phone was nearly dead—but he was incredibly kind and even lent me a charger so I could use tap-to-pay. After I’d already placed my order, he surprised me with a sample of the coleslaw to try, and even shared a cookie that a local sales rep had left for him! The Hot Sicilian sandwich was delicious and very easy to eat.
It’s rare to find such genuine, attentive hospitality, especially when someone is handling the whole front of the house solo. I’ll definitely be back—thank you for making my day!”
I’ve been going to Union Jack for some ten years now and have seen it transition from the old to new location. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff is great. John, Niya, and Aubrey make you feel right at home and remember your favorites when you come back.
If you like a spot that is a sports friendly hangout and a causal dining experience, this is the place for you.
Food Recs: My Chicken Salad with breaded cajun, Breaded Cajun Chicken and Waffles, Rueben, and Deep Dish with Breaded Cajun.
The parking lot is in the rear, which is not extremely easy to navigate to. Then you need to find the front door by walking past three doors, down an alley, and through the front-deck seating. If you’re local, walking seems like a great option. If the weather is nice and the traffic is slow, I think the deck-seating would be nice.
The service was ok. They were normal people at work. Nice enough when you had their attention but it is a pub that doesn’t put an emphasis on connections.
The food was not great.
-Fish and chips had a good, unique breading texture (crunchy vs. crispy), but its overall flavor was just boring.
-My expectations on the deep-dish pizza were probably too high. I thought that I was getting a Chicago-style, two-inch tall casserole of a pizza, but I received a Papa Murphys pizza with the outside two inches of crust just standing up and crunchy and dry. There was no depth to the actual pizza at all. It took 45 minutes to come out, and I was told it is the normal amount of time to expect. I didn’t visit at a busy time of day.
-Soft pretzels with cheese were disappointing as well. I’m not sure if you can tell from the picture, but the cheese was not smooth. I don’t want to say gritty, but it definitely had an unpleasant texture. Pretzels were nice though.
