Very authentic great fish n chips – friendly service plenty of seating inside and out. Lots of big pieces of fish. And they had mushy peas! (I’m from the UK so I was very impressed) they also had a huge section of packaged British food for sale

Great old school place in Fountain Valleys Ca.. in a busy small strip mall..Small inside seating. The owner and his staff work super hard to prepare the food fresh and fast! It can get busy, worth the wait! We share a 3 piece Fish&Chip with med size cole slaw a it’s plenty! They also have fried chicken, shrimp, scallops, calamari..The onion rings and fish are bomb.com!!! Definitely Rec this place! It’s always good to Support Local neighborhood businesses.

Union Jack Fish & Chips

My wife and I made the 30-minute pilgrimage from Torrance, drawn by whispers of a proper chippy. Growing up in Leeds, I still remember the smell of vinegar-soaked paper and the thrill of cheap, golden comfort food — something The King’s Head in Santa Monica does well, but not exactly on a “working man’s lunch” budget.

Union Jack sits tucked in a strip mall (a promising omen for authentic food), and we were greeted by the sight of several folks already tucking in — another good sign. The man behind the counter wasn’t British (no accent detected), but the welcome was warm, so we kept an open mind.

We ordered two rounds of fish and chips: two generous pieces of fish, a mountain of chips, all for under $20. By the end, we were both stuffed and smiling. The chips were spot on — soft inside, crisp outside — and the fish? Perfectly battered, with that glorious crunch that would make any Yorkshire lad nod in approval.

The setup’s simple — plastic cutlery, paper plates, indoor and outdoor seating — but the food does all the talking. And to top it off, they’ve got a little section of British goods for sale. We walked out with biscuits, frozen bangers, and a bottle of Barley Water (they were out of Ribena, sadly).

Verdict: 9/10. Delicious, filling, and authentically humble — just how fish and chips should be. We’ll definitely be back for round two (and maybe to see if Ribena’s back in stock).

Union Jack Fish and Chips is a real local gem. It’s a super small place located in a local strip mall with plenty of parking, so getting in and out is always easy. The food is definitely the star here. Everything is made to order, so it’s always fresh and hot. We always make sure to get the hush puppies they are a must-try! If you’re looking for fresh, affordable, and delicious fish and chips, this is the place to go.

Had really high hopes for this place. Truly disappointed in the food, the fish was very bland as were the chips, Ive had fish and Chips all over the world as its one of my favorite dishes, this is by far one of the lowest ones Ive ever rated. I literally ate 2 bites of everything and placed it in the trash can and left. Least the can of Coke was good.

This place offers authentic English-style fish and chips, serving up classic fried fish, shrimp, and fries just like you’d expect. The prices are reasonable and budget-friendly, and the staff were polite and friendly, which made the experience even better. The only downside was that the batter—or maybe the fish itself—could’ve used a bit more seasoning. I didn’t check if there’s a restroom available for customers, so I can’t say for sure. The seating area could also use some updates to make it more comfortable and inviting.

Went hunting for good fish and chips. This spot came highly reviewed, so we decided to try it, even though several other good places near the beach had also been recommended.

Some family members said this was as close to the fish and chips they’ve had in England, though I feel a chain in the Pacific Northwest does it pretty well, too. Malt vinegar comes standard with the order, so you don’t have to ask. The scallops we tried were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They even had mushy peas, which weren’t the best but also not bad. Even in England, you can find the full range of results when it comes to mushy peas.

I’m not sure I would make a special trip just for the fish and chips again, since it was quite a drive from where we were staying. However, if we happened to be in the area and had a hankering for good fish and chips, this would definitely be a place worth stopping by.

It’s a fairly good attempt at British fish and chips (I’m from London).

The fish is frozen fillets like Birds Eye, rather than ‘fresh’ fish, so don’t expect anything too authentic. A UK fish and chip shop would not survive with frozen battered fillets.

Having said that, they have curry, mushy peas, good chips and it’s as close as you will get in HB.

They also have a ship area with all of the British everyday items that you might miss as an ex-pat or tourist – hp sauce, colmans mustard, hobnobs, double Decker, bisto, marmite, Heinz baked beans, sarson’s vinegar, birds custard, Ribena, Robinsons, Branston, etc.

Lovely staff, Cafe type seating, reasonable prices.

It’s an authentic British Fish and Chips with delicious fish, the fries made right like in England as I’ve had several high quality dishes in London! I got the London special to do. The place isn’t fancy and you’ll smell the fish fry. However next time I’ll eat the items even sooner as today was to go yet still good!

This is a great fish and chips shop. The fish and chips were hot, crispy, and delicious. The portion sizes were large and the prices are very reasonable. On one wall they had a English grocery shelf. Only a couple tables but looks like most their business is take-out.
