Union Block is an Italian restaurant located in the heart of Penn Yan.
The staff were friendly and accommodating to requests, and brought the food out in a timely manner. The decor is nice, perfect for casual dining or a birthday.
The food was alright. We got the garlic bread, fried calamari, and a few of the pastas to try. The garlic bread was definitely a highlight, with it tasting pretty good and crisp. The Fried calamari was good, pretty standard as other Italian restaurants are. The pastas were good, though some of the sauces could’ve been better.
Overall, a nice Italian spot to try.

We went to celebrate my son’s 30th birthday and had an amazing experience from the minute we walked through the door. With the stone walls and old wood features it took me back some of the small restaurants from my trip to Italy.
OMG! The garlic bread!! Roasted garlic cloves to spread on top!
The chicken piccata was to die for! My son and his wife are vegetarians and had plenty of choices. They had the Bianca pizza and the Kale, garlic and cherry pepper pasta. We also had the Spicy Chicken Riggies, and the Italiano pizza. All were very, very good.
And as you can see from the dessert photo, we didn’t enjoy it at all! All were decadent!!

Italian American classics worth every calorie. The garlic bread was TO DIE FOR. Clams with white wine and garlic were incredible. Fresh Caesar wedge. The fra diavolo was quite devilish with a KICK. Super yummy and friendly service.

The food was fantastic. Drink selection superb. Kids’ menu items were on point for the little ones in our group. The atmosphere was cozy, but it definitely got loud at times, and it got hard to hear across the table if you had a large group like we did.

Went to this place with some friends and family, we were all looking forward to some good itlalian food. However, I was a disappointed with my carbonara, the sauce wasn’t the right consistency/texture and the garlic was so strong it overpowered the whole dish. I ordered the fresh housemade pasta but unfortunately didn’t get to appreciate it because of the strong garlic. My boyfriend’s bolognese was good, but some of the meat in the sauce was cold. He ordered a meatball with the bolognese which was juicy and tender. My friend chicken masala was under seasoned. The complementary garlic bread was delicious. Overall the service was good but the food was lacking, I probably won’t return here.

I was looking for a restaurant while traveling through Penn Yan, and I found Union Block. The reviews say it all. The food is fantastic as well as the service. We enjoyed Lobster Mac and Cheese and Chicken Parm. I had a hard time selecting with so many great options on the menu. They serve excellent garlic bread with whole garlic and olive oil, all covered with parmesan cheese. Delicious. They also have excellent wine and beer choices. Our server Ashley was great. We did not have a reservation for our party of 6, but they were able to accommodate us on a Saturday. Night. I would come back again. Loved it!

The waitress Juanita was wonderful! We had spinach lasagna and a glass of wine each. The moscato was extremely good and I kind of wish I had a second glass. Portions were good for the price we paid and don’t get me started on the awesome bread service.

I lived in Northern NJ and have been missing the great restaurants of the NYC area. No more. Union Block ranks up there with the best of them. Initially, we were ordering Chinese for Keuka Delivers (highly recommend this delivery service). Then noted Union Block. The price for our meals ended up being the same for both places, yet Union Block offers generous portions and everything is so fresh. Beet Salad, Insalata Caprese with basil and mozzarella that was fresh. Fettucini with Clams Bianco. The croutons on the salad were huge. 1/2 portions are sufficient for one person, unless you are sharing. Do not miss this fantastic slice of Italy!!

Delicious food clean excellent service. My husband and I spent the weekend in Penn yan NY and this resturant was minutes away from our Motel. When we arrived the hostess explained they were understaffed. You would never have known!! The service we received was the best I ever have had. The resturant was crowded. But… no waiting! All the serves were working as a team so we had more then one server as did everyone. The food was delicious
I recommend the chicken Riggies and you have a choice of spicy or non spicy. I chose spicy and it was the right amount of spice. I had a lemon drop cocktail. I highly recommend. The house salad was delicious and once again your choice of greens. I recommend the baby greens nice and tender. We ordered teramusu to bring back to the motel.(sorry no pic) which was the real Italian teramusu. The right amount of coffee and cream and a nice big serving.
