The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, which made the whole visit even better. Coffee was bold and delicious, served in a great rustic mug, and the avocado toast was outstanding, crispy bread, fresh toppings, and so much flavor.
Overall, a cozy, well-kept spot with great food, great people, and a great vibe. Highly recommend!
A quick note: be prepared to wait for a table about 25 minutes on weekdays and possibly around 40 minutes on weekends, according to my friends who live nearby. They’ve also mentioned that it’s very hard to get a table on weekends.
I was absolutely delighted by the food. The potatoes were simply amazing- perfectly cooked inside. I suspect they might boil them before baking, but whatever the method, it was incredibly tasty. My friend and I were both very impressed.
The only thing that disappointed me was that some drink prices were missing from the menu, such as lemonade, coffee, and matcha. I also found the price of the matcha lemonade quite high -almost $10. Had I known, I wouldn’t have ordered it. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the lemonade very tasty, even though I asked them to reduce the syrup (it usually comes very sweet). I also didn’t realize that extras like fresh mint and syrup were charged separately, and I could barely taste them. So this part was a bit upsetting. I recommend asking about the price of drinks not listed on the menu beforehand.
Another nice touch is that in the same building, there’s a small shop selling cosmetics, bags, and, as it seemed to me, a few antique items. There’s also a terrace nearby where you might be able to enjoy drinks, though I didn’t quite figure out how it works.
Overall, though, this place is wonderful, and I definitely want to return to try more of their likely delicious dishes.
The house potatoes were crispy and seasoned perfectly definitely a highlight.
The place has a cool, trendy vibe and seems like a local favorite. It’s in a small historic building, which was really neat. It did get a little noisy, but that just added to the lively atmosphere. There’s also a cute little boutique in the back not part of the restaurant, but fun to check out while you’re there.
The host was really friendly and let us choose between a table or bar seating. I wish they had outdoor dining since the weather was perfect that day, but overall, it was a great spot for breakfast with good pancakes and potatoes and nice service.
Shortly after I placed my order, the server returned to my table with the menu and told me that the kitchen had run out of biscuits due to the busy morning. So, I ordered what I had planned to take away. After a couple bites, my server walked to my table with the Pannise Benedict!!! WHAAAAT?! She said that the kitchen found some biscuits and the dish was ON THE HOUSE!! When I told her what my plan had been she said, “It’s crazy how the universe works”
Listen…. Even without the comped dish, this place delivers great service! And if I were a resident here or had a longer contract, this would be my brunch spot! The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.
P.S. Don’t forget the potatoes! No ketchup needed IMO.
They have a very interesting menu with a clash between time-tested classics as well as incredibly unique, ultra-flavorful menu items. Their food rivals the quality and flavor profile of many Michelin Guide designated or James Beard awarded restaurants, without the frills (or price tag) of a true ‘fine-dining’ experience. The tavern potatoes are a MUST!
The kitchen staff and service team deserve a standing ovation. They’ve taken an unassuming breakfast joint and turned it into a place I want to return every time I visit Milwaukee. My server/bartender [Carson] was knowledgeable, kind, and had great recommendations for me, top notch service all around!
Photos [sorry for the mid-meal quality pics] feature their crispy chili-oil fish sandwich, tavern potatoes, and chocolate chip pancakes. Be warned, they are popular and you may need to wait or go early to get a table when you want it! Already looking forward to my next visit to Wolfie’s!
