I was shocked to see how busy Uncle Sun was on a Thursday night, so we figured we’d give it a try on Friday night. It’s open super late, and their kitchen actually stays open. The portion sizes are huge, but the service is lacking. They are clearly understaffed. While you get a lot of food, it didn’t really seem to be anything special. For the price, I probably wouldn’t go back, but it did feel more authentic than a lot of Asian restaurants.

Let me tell you about Uncle sun, everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. Even things that I usually do not like have surprised me with how great they are prepared. I don’t know who they have in that kitchen but they are not paid enough. My only issue with the restaurant is that it’s not the fastest service and the dining room is a little messy. Not dirty but cluttered. Other than that I have zero complaints. The food is fantastic the staff is kind and very welcoming. They always make me feel like home even when I show up with a a 13-person party with no reservation. I will be there all the time. I absolutely love this place and it’s so awesome to go to after a long night at the bar with my friends

I ordered delivery through Chomp. Singapore noodles with tofu, steamed sweet bean bun, and mango mousse cake. Large portions of noodles and had more heat than other Singapore noodles I had recently. Buns were perfect, I saved one and had it for breakfast with tea. The cake is light and fluffy and has a delicate flavor.

this place is AMAZING!! so so authentic, service was great and pretty quick, and the food was top notch. would highly recommend the beef ho fun, as well as the potstickers and scallion pancakes. very large portions for relatively inexpensive prices. some of the best i’ve had!!

Discovered this place about 2 years ago through DoorDash and have been coming in person ever since. The food is amazing! I highly recommend the Chicken Hot Pot (pictured) and their Sizzling Rice Soup.

The garlic broccoli and chicken was good. The ma pu tofu was amazing too. The eggplant and garlic is a must. Solid place to get Chinese.

Went there for the first time and the food was great, the staff and service were excellent. We’ve been disappointed with many Chinese restaurants in the area lately but this place will be our “go to” whenever we’re in downtown Iowa City.

Uncle Sun has great garlic with eggplant. They’ll make your entrees spicy if you want. The portions are large, so you can be frugal with the leftovers. Anytime I’ve eaten in the restraunt the service has been great. Thanks for being great Uncle Sun 🙂
