I had a really great experience at Uncle Julio’s. I sat at the bar, and the bartenders were very friendly, attentive, and checked in on me consistently without being overwhelming. The service felt welcoming and relaxed.
The food was excellent. I ordered the birria quesadilla, and it was flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. I also ordered extra queso with my chips and salsa, and they included sautéed onions on the side, which was such a nice touch. The onions added extra flavor and really elevated the whole experience.
Overall, great service, great food, and a comfortable atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.

My wife and I went for an early dinner, at about 4:30 on a Friday night. The hostess and wait staff seemed lackadaisical. At first we were seated at a table in the center of a large open area, where a family with an infant we’re seated at the next table. I asked the hostess if we could have a booth away from young children and the staff were very helpful in reseating us.
We then got a waiter who was simultaneously training a young woman. They were helpful but it became a bit confusing when they started tag-teamimg us when it got busy closer to six pm.
The queso was very tasty and chips and salsa were tasty. We both got the two enchilada meal and I was very disappointed with the portions. The rice and beans were rather bland and the enchiladas were both small and unremarkable. However… We got the churro and churro cake… Amazing, just indescribably delicious.
The atmosphere is bland corporate restaurant. I don’t recall a single feature. The Rio was incredibly crowded compared to the venues we frequent. The weather was terrible with ice and snow everywhere impeding traffic and pedestrians alike.
Despite the amazing dessert, I don’t think we will return.

First time at uncle julios and it was a wonderful experience the atmosphere mimicked that of a South American home with warm lighting and bricked structure, it was well spaced out per table and service was amazing. I had the tomattio enchiladas and they were fresh and delicious i also had a strawberry basil lemonade that was well flavored but also not overly sweet. Would highly recommend.

Three of us had a wonderful evening at the bar. The bar area always has a great vibe and the bartenders are always friendly and attentive and provide good suggestions for food and drink. The enchiladas and fajitas and chili rellenos on special were excellent. The chips and salsa are addictive. The chips are thin and served pleasantly warm. The salsa is flavorful and with a little heat. The margaritas are our go to. Both on the rocks and frozen. We had a lot of fun with our favorite bartender, Gigi, who always gives us sensational service. Ally also has been excellent. Both are efficient and friendly and always positive and smiling. We are looking forward to our next visit

I have been here twice—the first experience (dine-in) was OK. The second time tonight (pick-up) was abysmal. There was a chaotic disorderly gaggle at the check-in table with no attempt by staff or management to help with check-ins. Once I finally got my food and brought it home, my two “cheese” enchiladas I ordered ended up being one chicken and one beef enchilada. I am a vegetarian, so thanks to Uncle Julio’s I waited in that long gaggle to have the side of rice for dinner (the beans unexpectedly had pork in them—not that uncommon, but a warning on the menu would have been nice). I was born and raised in Texas and know real Tex-Mex… I would not recommend Uncle Julio’s.

We dined in a few times. Usually get the table side guac so I can customize it without tomatoes since I can’t customize the other ready made guac on the appetizers. Which isn’t a big deal to me since I’m still getting what I prefer. Fajitas were great, I love that the tortillas were so warm & soft. My husband just grabbed a steak quesadilla since he wasn’t too hungry.

The server was good but seemed overwhelmed juggling multiple tables in different sections. Throughout the time we were there she did check up on us & refilled our chips. We weren’t in a rush but some tables were waiting a bit to check out especially the bigger groups. We actually had a different server check us out since we waited so long. But, since she was so attentive we didn’t mind it.

We have not yet tried any dessert, but plan on to next time.

Parking on the street was available at the time. But, there’s also a huge parking garage right a few steps away.

It’s a sad state of affairs today. I’ve been going to Uncle Julio’s for over 30 years. Bethesda, Reston, and Rio. One of my favorite restaurants. I’ve seen them chop the menu way down cutting out a lot of my favorite dishes over the years. And slowly cut down on portion sizes as well. But today was ridiculous. Usually my wife would order the $28 steak fajitas and I would love it because she would never be able to finish it and I could always have some of hers. And today, her usual order looked depressing and only had 8 small slivers of steak. It looked like about half of what you would usually get for the same price. Back in the day they used to come out on these smoking hot plates stacked with meat. Also the quality is not as good as before. It’s a far cry to what this restaurant used to be back in the day. I don’t know if it’s just not as good of location as Bethesda or Reston. I see many other restaurants start to charge more and give you less but I never thought this would ever come to Uncle Julio’s. I sent a photo of the fajitas to my mom who also loves this restaurant as well and she said “was this a kids order?” That’s how small it was. Photo included. She also said that she just went last week to the Reston location and my brother ordered the exact same thing. And she said that he got so much steak that he couldn’t even finish it all and had to take a bunch home. So I don’t know if I will continue to frequent Uncle Julio’s anymore at this location. But if I do, we are definitely not ordering any more fajitas!

Always had a great experience over the years. Homemade tortilla helps so much and waitress are nice. Food is great, decor is fun. The portions did get smaller over the years but I personally still had enough but did ate everything. At my table the fajitas are always popular. Everytime I come to town on business trip if times allow I love coming here.

Love the food here! The live guac is absolutely amazing, and the vegetarian bowl is packed with flavor. The margaritas are great too — perfectly balanced and refreshing.

Excellent service (Ramone), food and atmosphere. Chicken Enchiladas con verde salsa was as good as any in the country. I am still wowed by the flavors on the plate. This may not be typical, but I ordered some coffee and asked for some honey and spice, he came back good coffee, with sides of honey and cinnamon…! The ice cream was delicious as well.
