We used to like Uncle Chen before we left Texas, so after moving back, we decided to drive 50 minutes one way and had lunch there.
There were about four other customers during a weekday lunch, which isn’t bad, especially given the Katy location, which is a bit out of the way. There was only one server working the front–a woman who was very efficient and clearly ran things on a tight, almost military-like schedule. She handled everything well, but her demeanor felt too direct and can be off putting. She said it really loudly towards the kitchen that she prepared the rice.
The food came out in about 15 minutes, which was longer than I expected. However, I understand why–Franco, the owner, appeared to be the only one cooking and prepping food.
As for the food, the noodles were a bit too greasy for my taste. My husband enjoyed his curry, but it wasn’t anything particularly memorable. Unfortunately, we both experienced some stomach discomfort afterward, possibly due to the greasiness.
Overall, we’re glad we gave it another try, but this visit didn’t quite live up to our previous experiences.

This place can get quite busy, especially on weekends and during lunch and dinner hours, but it is absolutely worth the wait. The food is delicious, made from scratch with care, and you can really taste the love in every dish.
The staff are always kind and welcoming, and Uncle Chin truly adds to the heart of the place. For first-time visitors, please be patient and kind to the staffs, both seating and food may take some time, but that’s because everything is freshly prepared.
I’ve unfortunately seen a few new customers be unkind, and it’s disheartening. A little patience and kindness go a long way, especially in a place that clearly puts so much care into what they do. Highly recommended!

Upon walking into the restaurant we luckily got the only table available. Looking at the limited menu we decided on the Malaysian Roti Telur, chicken Char Kuey Teow, and the Uncle Chin’s Sizzling Tofu with seafood sauce. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but all three dishes were flavorful. The Roti Telur was crispy and flaky, and complimented well with the curry. For the Char Kuey Teow you can choose between different spice levels, we chose regular spice and it wasn’t overly spicy, but it was nonetheless delicious. The dish smelled great and the taste did not disappoint. The sautéed onions and bean sprouts especially stood out from the dish, 10/10! For the final dish, it came out sizzling hot on the plate. The tofu skin was crispy but the inside was soft, and when paired with the seafood sauce it made for a more savory taste.
The staff were really welcoming and created a cozy atmosphere. While eating, Uncle Chin himself came out to greet us and even gave us chocolate popsicles before we left.
This restaurant exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be back.

Super delicious Malaysian dishes cooked by a true blue Malaysian. Recipes has obviously undergone multiple levels of refinement and the dishes I tried were all excellent. The bak kut teh (herbal tea pork) that is only available on Sundays is superb and not like those prepackaged herb stuff. Looking forward to the next time I drive down to this area to try the other dishes.

I just had an incredible dinner at Uncle Chin’s Kitchen! From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely spectacular—the staff is attentive, friendly, and truly makes you feel welcome. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure a great meal.
The food was the real star, though. Everything we ordered was fresh, authentic, and packed with flavor. It’s clear they put a lot of heart into their cooking. If you’re looking for a top-tier Asian dining experience in Katy, this is the spot. 10/10 would recommended!

The food here is outstanding! We ordered the beef rendang, roti, Laksa, and the nasi lemak and would highly recommend any of those dishes (especially the rendang which is only available on Fridays). The service is really good and the owner is so nice. Highly recommend.

Eating here feels like you’re visiting your grandparents’ house for dinner. The dishes here give a comfort food vibe and you can tell the food is made with love (sorry to be corny). The place itself is no frills decor and has a bar area to sit at. I tried the sweet and sour fish and Malaysian grilled pork. The pork dish was simple but full of flavor. The pork was seasoned well and very tender. The pineapple, tomato, and cucumber on the side balanced out the dish perfectly. My favorite was the fish dish though. The sauce was neither too sweet or too sour, but just the right amount of both. The fish was tender and slightly crisp on the outside. I loved eating all the vegetables and fruit in this dish. My friend and I ended up eating both dishes clean… it was that good! The owner (Uncle Chin himself) greeted us and offered ice cream which was incredibly sweet of him. I could immediately tell the passion he has for cooking Malaysian food and was proud of the fact that we enjoyed his cooking. I highly recommend coming here as this was one of the best Malaysian restaurants I’ve had in this city!
