Always friendly. Always tasty. Some of the outside chairs (which is our favorite place to sit) are NOT plus size friendly. The arms are too close and dug into me. Fortunately they do have other chairs. The patio is delightful. It’s a nice place to have dinner with friends or a romantic dinner with your partner. We always eat here for my birthday each year. Please note – one time we made the mistake of buying the boat when it was just the two of us – IT WAS SO MUCH SUSHI OMG! It was comical setting that on a table for two. We didn’t realize! We had to abandon some of it.

UMI Sushi was perfect. Excellent sushi and sashimi. Great wine list. A friend and I were celebrating our mutual birthday and we wanted something special (both being sushi lovers!). We got what we bargained for.
I can imagine anything on the menu is great, and I wanted to order EVERYTHING. Fine and efficient wait staff, cute atmosphere. What more could we have asked for?

Friends brought us here for dinner recently.
Excellent gyoza and sushi. I had the rainbow sushi (crabmeat, avocado, salmon, tuna, yellow tail and white tuna); my husband had one with eel, shrimp, egg, crabmeat, etc., (called the Captain). We also had the house salad with the ginger dressing.
Everything was delicious and fresh made.
This place was packed, service very good.
They have outdoor seating in the back, but it was too chilly to sit outside.
Highly recommended.

Favorite sushi place with some unique and fun rolls. Prices are nice compared to many others places in the area. Cool drinks too. They are often busy in the evenings, especially on weekends.

I LOVE UMI, I’ve been going to Umi sushi since I was in high school, recently turn 21 and they brought me and the rest of my party free dessert. I absolutely love the strawberry sake sushi and salmon lover bowl. Their miso soup is the best!!

Excellent sushi spot with a diverse collection of rolls, wonderful outdoor seating in the back, and a nice selection of cocktails.
A buddy and I visited a couple of old friends and they picked this place for dinner and I am so glad they did! We loved sitting outside on a temperate summer evening, and feasted on about 10 different rolls. All were beautifully presented, and creative and unique spins on traditional rolls. I enjoyed all of mine: Keto Kiss, Lil Red Riding Hood, and the Creamy Scallop rolls were all tremendous. All the others I sampled that my friends selected were delicious as well.
I loved my Purple Reign cocktail but it was too sweet to order a second one, I’d recommend asking them to cut the sweet ingredients in half if you order one and prefer your cocktails on the lighter, dryer side.
Service was good, fairly well paced.
I look forward to returning and trying more sushi!

I had my first Pokémon bowl here. I wish I had taken a picture, because the presentation was really nice. I ordered the House Classic bowl. A very tasty and filling combination of diced tuna, salmon, shrimp, and whitetail fish that was marinated to perfection in House Poke sauce. The flavors between the marinated seafood, cucumbers, avocado, roasted peanuts, and mixed greens was Chef’s Kiss as they say. The portion size was nice and large. To make things even better, the waitress was amazing, patient, kind, and attentive during our meal. She never hovered, but was available at the right time throughout the dining experience. During the meal, all the other patrons sitting around us ordered some of the most delicious looking, visually appealing, and aromatically scrumptious items that I’d ever seen presented in a restaurant. I was so full by the time we left, I had to walk some of the meal off so that I did not go into a food stupor afterwards. The only slight down side to this was the parking. Since it was some days after a heavy snowstorm the parking spaces in the parking lots were piled high with snow so there were minimal spaces available which caused me to have to drive around for a bit until a space on the street became available. But since my dining experience was so pleasant, none of that really mattered. Not to mention, all the cute and eclectic neighboring shops that lined the main street. All of this made this visit well worth it! I highly recommend checking out Umi Sushi the next time you are in or passing through Ellicott City.

Always great food and good service. The ambiance is great too! Decorated in a Japanese style. You won’t regret going. Only problem is the parking (you have to park in the parking lot down the street unless you are lucky enough to find parking on the street) but it’s so worth it!

This review is a little late but well-deserved. If you are in downtown Ellicott city this is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the mood for sushi. Admittedly, this is the only sushi house that we found in historic Ellicott city as we’re walking around. This is not to say that it doesn’t have all the attributes you would want in a sushi house.
Sushi: it was amazing. It was very tasty and it looked all the part as you would wanted to. It came out beautiful and well-made. All of the ingredients were clearly fresh and super impressive.
Drinks: there were two of us and one order was a specialty drink, I will be honest I forgot the name, but it had to do with hello Kitty, and my friend loved it, and it was novel and tasty and hit all the marks. I ordered the sake sampler and it was so good and I’m glad I did. I will go back for it. You’ll have to review the pictures.
The environment: it’s historic elegant city, so you’re going to get a cozy environment, and your neighbors at the next table aren’t much more than an arms length the way, but the food and the drink should keep you busy enough not to recognize how close your neighbors are.
The price: very fair and what you would expect.
The service: they were very busy on the day that we went however, we never felt like our server was too far away and if they were, I noticed that other servers backed up one another, so that was a great experience
Conclusion: we would definitely go back and highly recommend Umi sushi. I’ll be at it is the only one we found. It doesn’t make it any less competitive if one opened up next-door. The sushi was amazing. The atmosphere couldn’t be better and the drinks were spot on. I think this would be a great place to go to when that snow starts falling. It will be a welcomed break.

I’m not easily impressed with sushi in Maryland considering how far we are from major markets, but Umi did it. Incredible fresh mackerel (they cut it entirely in house, hard to get non cured in the US), great hamachi, and even better fresh scallop. 10/10 service too. Please try it!
