We often visit our son at UCLA and have been wanting to visit. First of all, the food is wonderful. The red sauce is definitely from scratch. I had the Eggplant and pasta, very tasty. My husband and son had the Gnocci, also yummy. Paul was very nice and welcoming. We really liked him ! There is a parking garage right behind the restaurant. We didn’t know and felt like we were putting our lives at risk. No crosswalk and just crazy, so this will definitely bring us back. The atmosphere is great too. The full bar and huge variety of wines is also a plus. My only request is that they update the menu. My eggplant was $19 on the menu and I was charged $25. With the $9 beer, lunch for 3 was $84 without tip yet. Some lunch specials might bring more customers in. Just a suggestion for a great place that we want to revisit again and again. Thank you !

We had a wonderful dinner experience at Umberto’s Trattoria and Cantina! Our group of six was warmly welcomed by Tony, our friendly and attentive server. We were seated in one of the cozy dining rooms, which was both comfortable and perfect for conversation.
The menu is a unique and appealing blend of Italian and Mexican specialties—ideal for a group with varied tastes. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, including the flavorful Carne Asada, a satisfying Quesadilla, a generous Antipasto Plate, and two orders of classic Pasta Pomodoro. I especially loved the Umberto’s Pasta with penne, broccoli, and sun-dried tomatoes—I requested Alfredo sauce on the side and used it sparingly, and it turned out to be a fabulous choice!
The margarita was excellent, and we were impressed by the wide selection of beer and wine available.
For dessert, we shared the Tartufo al Pistachio, Mixed Berry Cheesecake, and Chocolate Mousse—all of which were delicious and beautifully presented.
They also offer a daily Happy Hour from 3–7 pm (except Sundays when they are closed), featuring great specials on a wide selection of appetizers and drinks. The bar area is relaxed and inviting—perfect for winding down or meeting friends.
Located right on Sepulveda freeway close across from he Getty Museum, Umberto’s is a fantastic midway stop for commuters traveling to and from the San Fernando Valley. A great place to relax and unwind and let the traffic calm down! There’s convenient parking in the garage, and the restaurant offers several dining rooms that can accommodate up to 100 guests—making it an excellent venue for group events.
Highly recommended!

Last night we meet some friends at Umberto’s for dinner. Anthony gave us the VIP treatment and explained one of the evening’s specials, Surf and Turf, and explained where they sourced their meat from, so we tried it and we were not disappointed‼️ Two others had pasta dishes and enjoyed those and two had the margarita pizza, which was also very tasty. I love this little, local restaurant and will be back again❣️

We got the Chicken Marsala and the Chef’s pasta special (chicken, sun dried tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli in a creamy white sauce). It was all fantastic! The free bread was delicious too but I wish there had been more than 4 tiny little pieces for two of us.

Ordered the vegetable lasagna and the mushroom truffle pizza to go. They did not give me the mushroom truffle pizza but instead I got some sort of prosciutto, arugula, and cheese pizza. I didn’t make a fuss because I thought you know maybe they’re out of the pizza that I wanted.
The only flavoring to it is the prosciutto and the arugula. This thing is basically bland. I had to add balsamic vinaigrette to it to at least give it some kind of flavor.
Same with the vegetable lasagna. It needs salt, it needs pepper, and I could probably get some tastier from the frozen food section of a grocery store.
When I ordered my food, the person who took my order sounded like they couldn’t really be bothered to take my order.
It’s Monday night and the place was empty. Put two into together. I don’t believe all of the five star reviews.
I’m only eating this because I’m just really hungry, and there’s nothing else in the house.

Umberto’s is open again! Granted, it’s a soft open, but they are open nonetheless. I started w/ a Ceasar salad & had the Bistecca de New York rare as an entree & it was very very good. The New York came w/ a vegetable medley & mashed potatoes, all were most delicious.
Happy they are open again & we will be back if only for a drink at the bar, an appetizer & to grab some cheeseburgers to go!
See you soon Tony!

A perfect hidden gem in the heart of Bel Air & 405 cross roads. As I was driving up to 405N freeway and stuck in massive Friday rush hour I saw their parking sign and I immediately made the choice to stop for a drink & a quick bite to pass the rush hour grid!
The hospitality of Tony the bartender was incredible, I got greeted immediately
& got served the Umberto’s passion a beautiful refreshing gin drink with their sliders (super delicious & fresh)
The restaurant has a beautiful dinning area with an added private dining room, perfect for intimate parties.
It also had that European charm to its ambiance. Will highly recommend a visit especially if you are stuck in traffic.
Great hospitality with delicious menu & charming ambience
Cheers

Stumbled across this place looking for somewhere to stop waiting for traffic to die down after visiting the Getty. I’m so grateful we decided to stop here. Our server Tony was one of the best servers I’ve had in a while. I trusted every one of his recommendations and don’t regret it. the drinks were great, the food was delicious, I highly recommend waiting out rush hour here.

Sorry to say that dinner was overall a very disappointing experience–perhaps an off night. We were first told we could order a main dish on the menu, eggplant parmesan, after the waiter checked with kitchen, and when the other main dish was served to me, we were told my husband’s order was not available, and had to order something else. Overall, the food was quite heavy on garlic. And then when it came time for ordering dessert for my birthday, particularly after all the garlic, we were told they did not have any dessert that night.
