Food was so good, especially the spicy miso soup (it was indeed spicy even though I got a medium) such good flavor! The gyoza was cool although under the top layer they were basically normal gyoza. Overall really good ramen and will be going back again! I especially loved the flavor of their pork!

Umami Ramen is such a gem! The food is absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The service is fantastic; everyone was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. I also loved the little entry area filled with cute trinkets—it adds so much charm and makes the whole place feel welcoming and unique. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to!

I’m so stoked there is good ramen spot in Folsom! This has become my go-to location for ramen.

My favorite is the spicy tonkotsu with the regular noodles. The broth is very well seasoned and perfect slices of charred pork of lean to fat ratio. I love the fact that you can customize the noodle type between regular and skinny. My favorite part of eating ramen is the egg and they give you the WHOLE EGG!! You can add more for $1 each. What a steal! I always get one more on the side.

You self order at the kiosk station and grab a number. I get anxious when it gets busy because I fear that I won’t find a seat after ordering. It hasn’t been a problem and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s experienced this when there’s a rush.

The name speaks for itself, Umami Ramen is the best! First time coming and we will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun, with trinkets, toys and Japanese imports you can buy. The service is excellent with friendly staff and support if you need it. The food was out of this world! The black garlic tonkotsu was amazing. Portion size is great and they gave us a California roll as a promotion for September. Overall, if you’re looking for a great spot for Ramen, this is it!

I dropped in on a lazy weekend just before noon. Umami Ramen in Folsom, CA. I have not been back here in a while. .Right when I stepped in, I noticed the interior setup changed quite a bit. The kitschiness of the anime, trinkets, Japanese snack food, claw game machine, and toy collectible baubles for purchase is abundant. Visual sensory overload. All of that was not here the last time I dined here. I had to take a quick glance around to make sure I was in the right place. Yup, I was in Umami Ramen.

After I weaved past folks gawking at the snacks and stuff, I made it to the self ordering kiosks. There was no human person taking orders, so I used the kiosk. I would have preferred the human interaction to ask questions. I had to read the kiosk board a few times regarding the ramen topping options, it is mark options it if you do not want it versus want it.

After I ordered my food and took my table number sign, I meandered around gawking at all their merch. Neat stuff that I want and of course do not need. Besides the items near the front door, they have more merch on the back wall near the restroom. Plus they have snacks on the merch shelf, Japanese ice cream in the cooler by the front door, and a cold case of Japanese sodas and juices.

My order of black garlic tonkatsu ramen took a little bit over 20 minutes after ordering. The big, piping hot bowl was set in front of me. It looked gorgeous, picture perfect. The egg was cooked with the yolk having a nice, classic jammy consistency and served cold in the hot broth as it should be. The pork slices were seared, that added more flavor to it. The broth was more flavorful than I remembered. Deep umami flavor. Yum. Slurp-luscious. But it hit me hard a few hours later. I have MSG food intolerance. I found out later the broth had MSG. I got a migraine and tummy ache. My issue, not theirs. I can handle MSG in small quantities. I am in that statistical 1% of the population having MSG intolerance. Lucky me. So if I eat significant amounts, I get a migraine and other not so fun symptoms depending on the quantity consumed. I did not have this problem before eating here. But it is not uncommon for ramen places to use MSG.

Umami Ramen is a total game-changer for the Folsom food scene! It’s no surprise they recently ranked as a Yelp Top 10 Ramen Spot in California—the quality, consistency, and atmosphere are truly world-class. From the moment you walk in, the modern-yet-cozy vibe (complete with cool anime figures and Japanese imports) lets you know you’re in for an authentic experience.
The Standout Dishes:

The star of the show is undoubtedly the Black Garlic Tonkotsu. The broth is rich, creamy, and deeply savory. As reviewer Ivan N. put it, “The black garlic tonkotsu was amazing. Portion size is great… Overall, if you’re looking for a great spot for Ramen, this is it!” If you like some heat, the Spicy Tonkotsu is a fan favorite. One regular, Lillian W., noted: “My favorite is the spicy tonkotsu with the regular noodles. The broth is very well seasoned and perfect slices of charred pork of lean to fat ratio.” They also uniquely serve a WHOLE soft-boiled egg with their ramen, which is perfectly jammy and seasoned.

For appetizers, you cannot skip the Chicken Karaage. It’s incredibly moist and crispy, often served with a delicious spicy mayo. The Deep Fried Gyoza and Takoyaki are also excellent starters to share.
Why We Love It:

Perfect Broth & Noodles: The broth is complex and “slurp-luscious” without being overly oily. You can even customize your noodle type between regular and skinny to get that perfect bite.

Seamless Service: They use an innovative kiosk ordering system that makes customization effortless, but the staff remains incredibly attentive. Monica C. shared, “Their customer service has always been fantastic, their ramen stays consistent, and everything I’ve had has never disappointed.”

Personal Touch: You’ll often see the owner checking in on tables with great spirit and enthusiasm, ensuring everyone is satisfied.

Whether it’s a cold winter night or a casual lunch, Umami Ramen delivers pure “comfort and joy” in every bowl. It is easily the most authentic and delicious ramen shop in the area!

This bowl of ramen was like a warm hug after I had a very long week. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen with rice noodles and it was WONDERFUL! Big props to the kitchen for the rice noodles being bouncy and yummy with no mush! I don’t eat wheat so I’m very happy to find great substitutions. This is our 3rd time and each time we leave so happy! 10/10 go here people!!!

Really liked my spicy tonkastu. Liked it better than the black garlic. The chasu has great flavor. Also, the pepper chicken kaarage was GREAT. Delicious and light batter. Spicy mayo is great too. Fast service. Can order on kiosks. Plenty of parking. Also they have thin noodles!!

Umami Ramen is one of my favorite spots in Folsom for a warm, comforting bowl of ramen. The broth is rich and flavorful — especially the black garlic tonkotsu — and the portions are super generous. The noodles have a great texture, and the chashu is usually tender and well-seasoned.

If you’re craving a satisfying, delicious bowl of ramen, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommend!
