Cool Yakiniku place but feels a little crammed. The staff were incredibly friendly and the restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms. It’s great that they offer both a normal and a premium menu so you can choose your price point. Most of the meats are marinated which I was hoping there would be a good amount of both marinated and unmarinated options. They also have a small bar with rice, veggies, California rolls, and yakisoba.
Overall, the normal menu’s meats are definitely lower quality than the premium ones. Unfortunately, I only cared for 1-2 of all the options which feels extremely limited compared to other Yakiniku or KBBQ’s nearby where I like a bigger variety. Aside from this, it’s a good place to give a try!

For $15 per person we had some really good steak and brisket and chicken and onions and mushrooms, it was great quality food and also the sushi was pretty good, and it was a vibe to get to cook it myself on the table

This is a perfect place for dinner and a movie. Located right outside the doors of a modern movie theater, Umami provides a conglomerate of cultural flavors under the title of Japanese BBQ. They offer what I recognize as a Korean BBQ setting, but with item that are chosen by the consumer from an open buffet. Most of the large selection of meats are pre-seasoned or marinated, so there’s no need to add salt or pepper while you cook them at your table. Consequently, if the food doesn’t taste good its your own fault cause you’re the one cooking it, which is an adventure all on its own. They had only one flavor of sushi rolls, but this was accompanied by kimchi, miso soup, cinnamon glazed pineapple, and a host of other choices. We used to go to a different Korean BBQ place in Orem, but we’re going to come here from now on. The food tastes better, and there’s a bigger selection. But be careful. If you do dinner and a movie, you won’t have room left for popcorn and a drink at the theater. By the way, the staff were superb!

It was a fun experience, but their service and quality of meat cuts weren’t worth the price.
The cooking went quickly because the meat was cut thin. There was lots of meat options. You would cook several things, like some of them and dislike others.
They have no sushi, just dry California rolls. There were two currys, okay, nothing amazing. They taste like they are from a powder mix.
If you need your server, you need to push a button on the table. They won’t come full up your drink, clear your plates or see if you are okay unless you ask them by pushing the button, each time you need help. Our server failed to inform our table so we had played stacked up and drinks empty until we saw the little sign between the dessert menu and the napkin holder that says we need to push the small button for help.
We kept forgetting the button, so my table stacked up and were often left wondering where our server was.
The sauces were good. The grill in the table is perfect for two, but for four it was really tight and we had to take slow turns.
It did seem clean and the decor was great.
Overall, I feel like it was a little pricey for our experience. I’d rather spend 30$ each at a nearby sushi place.
My husband was sick all night after we ate here, I was fine but we definitely will not return.

First thing I want to say is Cory is an amazing host. One of the best hospitality I’ve received in a while and he’s convinced me to come back again with friends as his helpfulness has made the food taste better. I would love for him to be my host again when I come back!

This is THE PLACE. Brigham Young was talking about Umami. Seriously their meats are so delicious. My wife and I filled our trays with sauces but we didn’t even use them because the meats were seasoned SO well. Everything here is amazing. Even their Pepsi with a mango flavor add in. You will leave happy, full, and healed of mental illness

Umami has been a favorite of mine and my family’s for years. I come here often, whether it be date night, family celebrations, or just an excuse to go to dinner, I find myself here about once a month. Usually the service is average and the food is good so we keep coming back. However, tonight left an especially bad taste in my mouth and I will not be returning. With family in town for the holidays and Umami being my brother-in-law’s favorite restaurant when he visits, we made a reservation for a large party (10). Our reservation was at 6:30 and we were seated at 6:40, not a big deal except for what happened at the end of our visit. Our waitress brought the check about 90 minutes later. We were clearly wrapping up and it seemed like an appropriate time. My dad was caught up in conversation and hadn’t yet given them his card. The host then approached and told him we had reached our two hour limit and asked us to leave. This, mind you, was at 8:15, not at the two hour limit of our reservation, to say nothing about being seated late, as well a loyal group that comes often enough that the host recognized us. As we were clearly bugged by this he expressed that they had another large party coming in that they had to prepare for. This was obviously not true, seeing as how the restaurant closed at 9, as well as the entire upstairs being open. This host, not only rudely urged us out the door in an attempt to get off early, but also didn’t even have the backbone to tell the truth as to why. We will not be returning and will be taking our business to Ombu. For $30 a person the least you can ask for is a helpful staff that enforces actual restaurant policies, not rounding down at their convenience and interrupting the experience that we paid for so that they can lock up 5 minutes early.

Buffet style Japanese BBQ. Table for two tonight. We enjoyed being seated right away without a reservation on a Friday night! We believe this was due to the business having very prompt table service, a buffet that is stocked adequately, and guests getting full quickly. We enjoyed the Wagyu beef, pork bully BBQ in the sesame dipping sauce. The potstickers, dumplings and rice are also very good! To finish the meal, we roasted some pineapple slices. Out the other three Korean/Japanese BBQ places we’ve tried locally, this is our favorite!
The service/check push button on the table was a very nice feature.

From the moment you walk in, each entrée comes with a bowl of rice, and you can choose between regular or brown rice, which is a nice touch. Plus, I love that you can pick out your own cut of meat to cook! The ambiance is very pleasant, and the place is impeccably well-maintained.
Unlike similar places, there’s no smoke or kitchen smell filling the restaurant, even with everyone cooking at their tables. This is a huge plus, making the experience much more comfortable. And to top it off, the customer service is outstanding. The staff is attentive, friendly, and truly makes you feel welcome. Definitely a place worth visiting.

This place has definitely an experience with it. The food is very good! And if your a carnivore who eats animals as his favorite food like me then they have plenty here! My favorite is the cow meats they have! But the pigs and chickens are so good too! The grills at tables make it really fun especially with other people. It’s kinda expensive but when I think about it, it’s the same price as eating two fast food combo meals! I have only eaten here during dinner! It’s one of my favorite restaurants honestly! Also if Chris is working tell him hi! I recommend Umami for the experience
