I was already a huge fan of the owner from her days running the famous Taiwanese bakery in Milpitas, so when we happened to be nearby, we took a very spontaneous detour to check out her new spot. It’s small but has a really cozy feel. I thought it was just a bakery, but the owner told us they also serve Shanghainese-style lunch, so my family (including my two young kids) decided to sit down for an early meal. We ordered a feast: meatball, pork chop noodle soup, pan-fried bao, and the amazing steamed egg with egg tofu and shrimp. Honestly, what blew me away was that my kids, who were just recovering from sickness and had zero appetite beforehand, ate tons of the noodles and meat! That was truly the best sign that the food here is comforting and delicious.
Every dish we tried was stellar. My personal must-order is the mini shrimp wonton. The filling is very flavorful, and the soup is light but umami (I finished more than half the bowl myself). The steamed egg was also a standout, soft and yummy (it tasted even better if you pour a bowl of rice in and mix it together with the egg). We even got to sample their newly released cucumber and shrimp stir fry, which was so super refreshing that the kids started fighting over the cucumbers! I’m also happy they preserved the bakery side of the business, as I was able to stock up on my old favorites, the sausage bread and croissants, before heading home. The owner is as friendly as ever, and the portions and prices are very decent. We’ll definitely be visiting again soon for more!

Amazing food at Umami Dumpling! The pan-fried buns were fluffy and flavorful, the sliced pig ears were crunchy and well-seasoned, and the beef noodle soup was rich and comforting. The poached chicken was juicy and tender. Great portions, fresh ingredients, and friendly service—highly recommend!

Fantastic, authentic, Shanghainese comfort food. My kids are picky eaters but scarf down the pan fried buns and salted pork bok choy braised rice. We try new things once in a while and always enjoy them. The former restaurant at this location shut down and the new owners are carrying it forward with their own improvements but keeping the classic dishes identical. I’m not joking when I say we eat here once a week.

The dumpling is average, skin pretty thick. Smoke chicken taste good with the sauce. Pan fried buns is disappointing, filling is small and not much soup inside, serve on a plastic black plate that looks like hot plate.
