Tried their South Indian normal Lunch. Curd was sugary and sweet and their Semiya payasam never had sugar. When raised the question the owner said this is the way they prepare the curd. He then mixed the sugar and brought another cup of coloured payasam. It was tasteless.
Sambar, Rasam, Proriyal was too tasteless. I mistaken their kootu as sambar (few pieces of ridge gourd and kidney beans and sambar gravy), chapati was good however the dal served was tasteless. Rice seems to be basmati, not sure if South Indian lunch will be served with basmati rice.
Over all it was a below average thali meals and not worth for 20$.
Masala dosa was okay in taste.
Medu vada was very hard however no taste of urad in it. Coconut chutney served with Vada and Masala dosa was not fresh. It tasted like frozen chutney mixed with hot water and tasting old.
Drinking water was good and it didn’t taste didn’t tasted the normal pipe water.
If you are really hungry try here, do not eat here for the sake of visiting a South Indian restaurant with some expectations. Better eat the tamarind rice and curd rice from the Venkateshwara temple which will be fresh and delicious.
Full of regrets and will avoid this place next time.

We come here for authentic South Indian vegetarian food. I had Chana Bathura – huge puffy bread with chickpea curry. My guest had Dal with rice and raita. The servers are very attentive and the food is brought very quickly. The menu has a wide variety of options. It is really hard to choose. There are strict vegan options. The restaurant is modest in style and not a “fancy” restaurant. Don’t let the modest interior fool you – they have the best Indian food in town. They also serve a variety of mango drinks. Their mango milkshake is authentically refreshing. If you are looking for a reliable Indian culinary experience, you will be very pleased with Udipi Cafe.

Excellent south Indian food. Worth the drive even if you are coming from. Downtown. We ate idly vada combo and Andhra masala spicy dosa. Both dishes were great. Masala chai was good. Very fast service. Ample parking space. finally, it is BYOB.

If you are looking for authentic South Indian flavors in Pittsburgh, Udupi Cafe is the place to go. We ordered the Masala Dosa, Idli and Vada and every bite was so good. The textures were spot on and the flavour’s were so traditional.. it truly reminded us of home in India. We finished the meal with their tea which was the perfect ending. Highly recommend for anyone craving a genuine taste of home!

Super friendly and helpful restaurant, if you’ve never ordered there before. I have severe Celiac Disease ( ai can’t eat gluten). There are numerous gluten-free options. The masala dosa taste and smell scrumptious. Helping are generous. Fairly priced. I highly recommend trying this unassuming, but delicious food.

Udupi Cafe – A Culinary Delight**
Our visit to Udupi Cafe was an exceptional experience that left us thoroughly impressed and satisfied.
**Service:**
The service was wonderful—efficient, warm, and attentive. The staff ensured every part of our dining experience was seamless, making us feel truly valued.
**Food Quality:**
The dishes were nothing short of perfection. We sampled a delightful array, including dosa, pongal, uttapam, poori, and kesari. Each dish was super hot, fresh, and prepared with remarkable precision and authenticity. The flavors were vibrant and incredibly satisfying.
**Standout Items:**
The sambar and chutney deserve special mention for their delicious, comforting taste. Both complemented the dishes beautifully, adding to the overall experience.
Udupi Cafe has mastered the art of blending excellent service with incredible food quality. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone craving authentic and flawlessly executed South Indian cuisine. We left with full hearts and even fuller stomachs!

The ambience wasn’t great, and the service was good. The Paneer Makhni was disappointing (2/5), and the butter naan didn’t taste good. The poori was too thick, and the curry that came with it was average. The Mysore Masala Dosa was alright( no peanut chutney is served here). The yogurt rice had a bit of a spicy kick but was actually tasty. One major downside— the restroom definitely needs a lot of attention.
