Had some bar snacks and a drink. Food was great. The bar man was very knowledgeable about the different wines on offer. It was very relaxed and comfortable. There was a real fire in the grate which added to the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.
We were there for the tasting menu on Valentine’s Day, and after the starter and main courses, which were fantastic, it became very clear the waiting staff had forgotten about us. It took close to 30 minutes for the sorbet to be served, and that was only after I flagged someone down and asked for the next course.
I don’t know what happened, because the service had been pretty good until that point, but then after a certain time, the waiting staff seemed noticeably less friendly and attentive. We arrived at 6:15pm and ended up cutting the meal short and leaving at 10pm, which I feel is a long time, even for a tasting menu. I also had to ask for the bill twice.
It’s a shame because the meal was honestly on its way to being a 10/10 experience until the service fell off hard. Although it was Valentine’s Day, the restaurant was far from being full, so I wonder if something happened behind the scenes to affect the service. We’d heard great things about Ubiquitous Chip and were so looking forward to trying it, but I very much doubt we’ll be back after this.
Top class manager who dealt with an issue ( ) in the restaurant really impressively too.
But what makes it really stand out – the people
Staff made this a special evening by just taking extra step in making us comfortable.
We came half across the globe to this city and this place just made it a great evening.
If it’s likely to not get charged £25 per person by cancelling then it should be considered changing the wording on the cancelling policy. If it is for no shows mainly (which I do understand btw). Added photo/screenshot for booking policy.
Initial review:
The food was amazing and the service was good too. Giving 4* because if you happen to not manage to go within less than 24h they will charge £25 per person on the booking. Which is a bit cheeky! I understand lots of people won’t even bother cancelling but I would say £10 per person with maybe 12h notice it would be understanding.
I will never return to this place and I don’t recommend it to anyone. Don’t spend a single penny in this awful place. Good food should always lift your mood.
But after this meal, I’m still upset
Would definitely go again!
