The authentic Old World Ratskeller Restaurant is located in the lower level of the historic Turner Hall of Monroe, the only Turner (gymnast) hall of Swiss origin left in the United States. The menu features American favorites as well as Swiss and German cuisine. History and artifacts of Swiss immigration to the area line the walls. The Ratskeller Restaurant also provides food for banquets, receptions, and other large events in Turner Hall’s Grand Hall, as well as offering off-site catering.

We were staying in to town to do some trail riding and decided to check out the fish fry. Don’t miss this place. The soup and salad bar was phenomenal. I got that as my meal. My husband got the fish fry and Rosti. Retro atmosphere made it even better. This is a must stop when in Monroe.

We were in Monroe for the baloon rally. We stumbled on the Ratskeller by chance and are incredibly happy we did. The place is incredible! The setting is a perfect traditional beer hall. The food was delicious! I had the fish fry and Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet. My wife had, among other things, the Grasshopper and loved it. To top it off, there was a man playing traditional Swiss music on the accordion. He was incredible and added to the entire experience. I highly recommend it. The only downside is that it is only open two nights a week.

We stopped in for a Friday Night fish fry. The place was busy but service was efficient and seemed to be able to handle the demand well. Prices were fair and portion sizes were huge, I definitely didn’t leave hungry. The atmosphere feels like a true Swiss restaurant.

It was a very peaceful experience. I love all the art on the walls. I’ve been coming here for about 25 years and brought my kids along this time. They had a great time! We enjoyed cheese fondue, and I had prime rib for my dinner. Everything was perfect. I would rate the prime rib an 8 out of 10. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere definitely deserves a 10 out of 10. It really brings you back in time.

Yum! We had a fish fry on Friday night. Our girls ordered interesting sandwich combinations and loved them. Great soup and salad bar included with the dinner entrees we got. Great place!

Swiss/German traditional style cuisine. Amazing Friday Night Fish Fry as well. Plenty of options for kids and those seeking a burger and fries. Prime Rib on Saturdays. Great selection of local brews and a full bar if you like a brandy/whiskey old fashioned(highly recommend!! They make em just right!)

Our reunion of retired school teachers, staff and family members is held every year at Turner Hall. A wonderful buffet is always prepared for us, and wait staff are so attentive and pleasant. We have plenty of room to mingle for our social time, in a private setting. Highly recommend for weekday business or social group luncheons featuring buffet selections.
