I think that the atmosphere here was great! This would be a great place for a celebratory brunch. I had the spicy chicken and waffle and while it was good, it was definitely not the best I have ever had. I think the food was also a bit over priced. I will definitely try it again, and order something different next time. (We only had 2 people and arrived before 10 am, I’ve heard it gets busy after that)

EDIT: I’m adjusting my review score from three stars to two since the owner is only responding to fake five star reviews. New screenshot attached. I will restore it to three stars if the owner develops integrity and responds to my review in good faith.

I tried Tupelo for Restaurant Week. While the $20 offer was a fair (not outstanding) deal, I’d be hard pressed to eat here any other time.

The service was good. My bartender Rachel was friendly and polite, and she kept on top of things. The interior is nice to look at, though it’s clear this place focuses more on the “classy bar” aesthetic than it does a southern kitchen look.

The food was just okay. For the starter I chose the chicken poblano soup. It had a nice texture, but it was a little bland. More seasoning would have fixed it. The bowl was also small in relation to its regular menu price ($6.99). My entree was the honey dusted fried chicken ($16.99) with Caesar salad and mac and cheese for the sides. The chicken was thankfully juicy and tender. I did taste hints of honey on the skin, but like the soup there just wasn’t enough seasoning. The pasta in the mac and cheese was overcooked and mushy, and this is such an easy thing to avoid. Cook the pasta al dente or slightly under such that the carryover cooking from the hot cheese doesn’t make the pasta too soft. Once again, like the soup, the portion was small in relation to menu price. I’ll say that the banana pudding was the highlight of the meal. No complaints about that.

As I stated in my opening the RW offer was a fair value, but would I return if I had to pay full price? No. Customers are willing to pay more if they get more, but this place doesn’t deliver on that. When a reasonable person thinks of a “southern kitchen” they think of great hospitality and large portions of food with flavor that pops. Tupelo bears the name but doesn’t back it up. In this economy where more and more people are pulling back on dining out, a restaurant’s future is determined by their willingness to provide value.

We had a fantastic dinner at Tupelo Honey (the new Lenexa spot—worth the drive from Blue Springs!). The food was spot-on, and the vibe inside is super inviting and fun.
The place has such a cool Southern charm: that glowing “Kiss my grits” neon sign surrounded by lush greenery and snowflake accents is a total standout—great for photos! The ceiling is draped with beautiful purple wisteria vines that give the whole dining area a fresh, garden-like feel, even in the winter. The bar setup is impressive with its long lineup of bottles and hanging lights, and the spacious, bustling room full of happy diners just adds to the energy. They even have a nice covered patio out back with string lights and yellow chairs—looks perfect for warmer evenings!

I went with the smothered chicken (my wife’s iconic choice was the chicken and waffles). The gravy was a light cream style, not heavy or overpowering at all—it perfectly enhanced the flavor of the juicy chicken breasts. The coating was light, not greasy, and it brought out the moistness of the chicken beautifully. Paired with classic sides of creamy mashed potatoes and fresh green beans, it was traditional Southern fare done right.
My wife loved her chicken and waffles—the waffles were warm, soft, and fluffy, with that perfect contrast to the crispy chicken on top, dusted with powdered sugar.
We also tried the biscuits with jam. Definitely go for the blueberry—it’s a winner! The peach one we had high hopes for, but it was a hard pass for us.
Service was top-notch.

Our server, Hannah, was outstanding—she kept our glasses full (never thirsty!), anticipated every request, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and effortless.

Highly recommend for anyone craving elevated Southern classics in a cozy, fun setting. We’ll be back!

Tried our local Tupelo Honey and will definitely be back! The best part of our visit was our server Gracey! She was sweet, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu (it was our first time) and very attentive! I tried a lemonade cocktail that was amazing and we had the biscuit appetizer with peach jam! Sooo good! We had the fried chicken this time although their menu is full of must try items, mine was spicy and my husband had the regular both with the parm potatoes- our food came out super fast! Gracey recommended the banana pudding to finish and it was perfect. It had vanilla wafers in the bottom – nice surprise -and crumbled on top. Parking was ample and very little wait with a reservation. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to this location!

I have been reading about this place ans wanted to go amd try it. The only thing I can say bad about this place was the service. Our waitress seemed inexperienced. But the food and atmosphere was great. The biscuits were super fluffy. Never had flgreen tomatoes with grits, a fantastic combo. There banana pudding is worth it. Love the flights options. Will for sure be back again.

Ashley was a great server! Check online their website for bogo entrees and free biscuits! The atmosphere is great and I love that it’s not crazy crowded. We enjoyed the sweet potato pancake, chorizo patty’s, poblano soup, and Asheville sandwich. The blue berry cold brew is verry sweet. Biscuits are great with the jam! The chicken and waffles were okay but we would get something else next time instead of those.

They discontinued the sweet potato biscuits. I did not hide the fact that made me more than sad when we were informed. HOWEVER, the sweet potato pancake and goat cheese grits were SUPERB.

Definitely going back. Service was good, atmosphere was cute. Food was legit.

But bring back the sweet potato biscuits.

I had the fried okra appetizer and it was hot fresh and crispy. The dipping sauce was good as well. I signed up for their rewards, and got two of their buttermilk drop biscuits free. They were very good. My main course was bourbon peppercorn glazed meatloaf (a handmade combination of beef and chorizo) with braised bacon greenbeans, stoneground goat cheese grits, and a side salad. Everything thing was very flavorful and good. My only complaint was my salad came out with my meal, so I wound up taking it to go. I will definitely be going back, other diners raved about their chicken and the Tupelo’s shrimp and grits sounds delicious.

This place is a joke! If you like small portions and overpriced alcohol, this is your place. We arrived here a little after 5:00 pm the place was half empty and we were told without a reservation we could only sit at a high top table off of the bar section. I’m not a big fan of bar tops, but that’s where we sat. Our food arrived, and we had to ask for silverware. The portions were about the smallest I’ve seen anywhere. I got the chicken and waffles. My chicken was about the size of a chicken tender flattened out and breaded, my two waffles were just a bit bigger than a deck of cards. My husband got the two-piece chicken dinner and his chicken was extremely small and a little on the dry side. He did say the mac & cheese was delicious. I ordered a glass of wine with my meal and when I receive the check, it cost more than my food. By the time we were done eating the restaurant was even less crowded than when we arrived and they had the nerve to tell the next couple coming in the restaurant that they were on a two hour wait. Lol! What the heck! I attached photos of the restaurant when we arrived and when we left.

Tupelo opened recently and we finally got in to try it. First off let me say the food was some of the best food we have had in a long time!!! The place was full and at first there was going to be about an hour wait but much to our surprise they called us less than 8 minutes later and had a table ready. We started with the biscuits which were excellent. He had the meatloaf and I had the salmon. Both were excellent. The salmon was flaky and tender and cooked all the way through with the skin being perfectly crispy. And it had such good flavor! My meal came with two sides and I selected grits and Mac and Cheese. Hands down the best grits I have ever had! And the Mac and Cheese was also excellent. The meatloaf was also very good. The portions were sized perfectly and the service was excellent and friendly as well. A bit on the slow side but the restaurant was completely full so understandable. We will certainly be back and will recommend it to our friends.
