Reviews
I stopped into Tupelo Honey while traveling solo for business and grabbed a seat at the bar. I actually sought this spot out because I used to live in Asheville, NC, where Tupelo Honey is always buzzing and consistently on fire, so I was excited to see it here.
I ordered the sweet & spicy fried chicken & waffles, and it absolutely delivered. The sriracha honey fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and perfectly balanced between heat and sweetness, paired with fluffy buttermilk waffles and a drizzle that tied everything together. It hit all the right comfort-food notes and then some.
What surprised me was how quiet the Franklin location was, especially compared to the always-packed downtown Asheville vibe. Not sure why, because the ambience is great and the food is just as solid. Service was a little lacking at times, but nothing that ruined the experience.
All in all, great food, a cozy atmosphere, and a nostalgic win for someone who misses Asheville. I’d definitely go back.
Last night (Jan 18th) while in town with my daughter and her friend we decided to give the place another chance. The server brought our drinks (2 waters and a tea) with about 6 pieces of ice. 2 of us ordered the sweet potato pancakes and one ordered the chicken and waffles and 2 sides of their breakfast potatoes. I bit into my $14 sweet potato pancake and it tasted burnt. I showed it to the server and was told that was what it was supposed to look like. I sent it back anyways. My daughter’s friend who also ordered the sweet potato pancake showed that hers was well done on the bottom but not burnt. While waiting on my pancake I ate some of the breakfast potatoes that were slightly warm and dry on the inside. The server brought out my new sweet potato pancake 10 minutes later and it was cooked perfect and tasted amazing. I could only eat half and asked for a Togo container. But because it was so dark in the place I didn’t notice until after I put half of my pancake in the container that it was full of dust.
The server came to our table 6 times. To get our drink order, brink my daughter her specialty drink, bring our food, when I flagged her down to tell about the burnt pancake, replace the pancakes and to bring a Togo box. Not one time did she refill our drinks.
We will never go back. $88 for horrible service, warm drinks, and subpar food.
In the photos: the one with bacon is the one that was burnt on the bottom and the sides. The one without bacon is the one they resent out.
Service was so good. Staff were attentive and so kind.
The food is phenomenal. We ordered a mimosa flight. I loved it. Not hubby’s thing. More for me.
He had the meatloaf with onion rings and cheese grits. The best grits, hands-down.
I ordered the whiskey and onion smash burger with the potatoes.
The food must had done a number on the hubs. He was talking about the complexities of the flavor…funny…but true.
Can’t go wrong with their menu. Something for everyone.
The atmosphere is southern and modern. Great color palette and spacious.
A friend suggested Tupelo Honey and I’m glad she did. My two friends had breakfast for dinner (which is always nice when you can get it), but when my eyes landed on the meat loaf on the menu, I knew what I was going to have.
Surprise number one: the meat loaf was a mini loaf, and not slices of a larger one. I’ve done this at home for my family and I feel it is the superior approach. Also, it was perfectly done. It is too easy to overcook a meatloaf. Two: it was not a ketchup based sauce. There may have been ketchup in it, but it clearly was not the dominant flavor. Definitely more savory than sweet and quite delicious.
Surprise number three: collard greens. Made with bacon, they were very good and did not have the bitterness of spinach. This was the first time I had tried collard greens and I will have them again.
And finally, outstanding potatoes. Crunchy and delicious on the outside they were the perfect complement to the meatloaf and collard greens. And all of this with reasonable pricing. Should my friends choose to desert me in the future I’m sure I will still return.
Orange Cinnamon Roll Old Fashioned: I love a good Old Fashioned, so I knew I wanted to try this. It was definitely sweeter than most Old Fashioneds, but the taste was very flavorful. The cinnamon syrup truly came through and the brown sugar rim (or maybe it was raw sugar) was a nice twist.
Famous Fried Green Tomatoes: This appetizer order came with 3 fried green tomatoes atop a plate of heirloom grits, drizzled with roasted red pepper sauce. The grits were super creamy and flavorful, and paired well with the fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes added the perfect amount of crunch and “tang” along with the roasted red pepper sauce.
Bourbon Peppercorn Glazed Meatloaf: I was very intrigued by this meatloaf because of the combination of beef and chorizo. Let me tell you, it was a very meaty meatloaf, but it was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. The bourbon glaze gave a nice hint of sweetness. The meatloaf came with 2 sides, and I selected the Rosemary & Parmesan Crispy Potatoes and Salt & Pepper Crispy Brussels Sprouts. The potatoes were super crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and were generously seasoned with rosemary. The brussels sprouts were awesome. This was a LARGE meal, so I had more than enough to take home for leftovers.
My Dad tried the Comfort Duo: a classic grilled cheese and tomato soup. There was nothing left on his plate at the end of the meal, so I think it is safe to say he enjoyed it.
The restaurant is HUGE, so they can accommodate larger-sized parties. The service was friendly and swift. Kudos to them for a wonderful experience!
