When I tell you that Tunnies is hands down far and away the BEST basket of fish and chips I’ve ever had all I can say is RUN to this restaurant the second it opens. Not even 1 hour since I finished my meal and I’m already looking for a reason to find myself back in La Conner.
The food is fresh, hearty, and light (never thought I’d describe fried food as light, but I didn’t get that heavy feeling that other fried food gives me). The staff working when I came was a brother sister duo who was so kind to myself and my dog, and knowing that it’s truly family owned and ran really adds to the charm of the restaurant. Not to mention the blueberry shake being my new cheat meal dessert from now until eternity.
For Tunnies, I see best in La Conner and best in the valley for years to come, but more importantly I see a beautiful local business I hope to share a meal with my kids one day! 12/10 would recommend.
Highly recommend stopping by this road side bite or to take to go.
Cod fish and chips and Chowder are all very tasty, served with a touch of heat from their Tartar sauce.
My wife typically doesn’t enjoy fried food, but she raved about the fish and chips here, because the batter tastes fresh and was too oily.
We ordered a couple meals plus clam chowder. Our halibut, scallops, and clam chowders were phenomenal! Fries were also pretty awesome, though the seasoning was slightly uneven. Their tartar sauce and ketchup also had unique flavors.
The food was piping hot when we got it, so know it was fresh and cooked with proper timing. I’m so glad we got to swing by there before they closed for the evening.
While the brother and sister team that served us were efficient and friendly, I won’t be returning due to the deceptive practices at this establishment. They charged us premium prices for halibut but delivered what were clearly cheaper fish sticks made from pollock, tilapia, or haddock. The reason why we knew this was because the person who took our order revealed it was “Frozen Trident Brand Fish.” This was incredibly frustrating.
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I will not be fooled again.
The breading on the fish was absolutely perfect. Crispy instead of soggy, flavorful instead of greasy (I’ve tried a lot of bad fish and chips). The overall fish taste was excellent, and it was cooked exactly right. The fries were hot, though I could have used a dash more salt. The homemade tarter is delicious…a little bit of a chipotle-ish kick to it, but nothing too bizarre.
Service was fast and friendly, and they even brought our food out to the car since it was rainy and cold!
Pricing was pretty decent, and I was happy with the portion size for the cost.
We will definitely be returning!
I am very hard on restaurants, because a huge amount aren’t worth the cost. But Tunnies is worth it, the fish was freaking perfect. First time I have ever enjoyed fried fish in my life. Bypass the other places and head to Tunnies, your tummy will thank you.
