Green Sea Shells Mag: Wellness by KK
We went to Tumbi for dinner on January 1, choosing it because of its Michelin Guide recognition. The restaurant was very quiet that evening, with a relaxed, understated atmosphere. Parking was easy enough with a short walk.

We ordered avocado bhel, paper dosa with masala on the side, dal tadka, aloo gobi, and a complimentary aloo sabzi. The dal tadka was the most satisfying dish—comforting and well balanced. The aloo gobi and complimentary aloo sabzi were fine but leaned simple; the sabzi in particular seemed to share a similar bhaji-style masala base.

The paper dosa was thicker and shorter than expected, and while the chutneys and sambhar were pleasant, they weren’t especially distinctive. Overall, the textures felt more substantial and rustic rather than light or delicate.

Service was warm but slow, with one person managing multiple tables and the bar. Also – I wish they gave bigger plates, it was hard to eat in tiny plates!

Overall: Tumbi could appeal to diners who are new to Indian food or looking for familiar, approachable flavors—especially those ordering classic dishes like butter chicken or other non-vegetarian options. As a vegetarian diner, this was my experience, and the menu felt more restrained than expected. Not a bad meal—just one where expectations, and ordering choices, matter.

Best Indian food in Los Angeles! I’ve never had a better Butter Chicken. It’s unreal along with every other thing on the menu. My favorites also include the sloppy joe, Bihari smoked kebab, the massive dosas, and the chili crisp prawns. However, you can’t go wrong with anything on this menu. As an LA foodie, this should be on everyone’s top list to try. Everything comes out fast and super fresh. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. The prices are beyond reasonable for the top-tier quality of the food. 100/10

I rarely leave reviews, it’s either when it’s 5 star or 1 star but this experience warrants one. I visited this restaurant with family with high expectations, only to be met with overpriced dishes, shockingly small portions, and service that left much to be desired.

Let’s start with the food: while somewhat flavorful, the quantity was almost laughable for the price. 3 pieces of paneer for $17, a small 12 oz coke for $6, even smaller Mango Lassi for $7 4 small puri of Dani puri for $12, portions were too small period. Straight robbery. I’ve never left an Indian restaurant unfulfilled and unsatisfied, this one is the first. Usually Indian restaurants offer rice with the dish, here you’re left to just eat the dish alone after you finish roti. Charging premium rates is one thing, delivering value is another. I understand rent and overhead are increasing, especially in Santa Monica, but that doesn’t justify cutting corners on portion size, quality, or service.

Service was slow, inattentive, and careless. Orders were taken incorrectly, and it felt like no one really cared to correct the mistakes. When I corrected and ordered what wasn’t delivered, it just added to the wait times. When a restaurant starts prioritizing cost-cutting over customer experience, it shows, and not in a good way.

Running a business in today’s climate is tough, but if the solution is to offer less while charging more, customers won’t stick around for long. There are too many great options out there that understand how to balance quality, service, and value, this just wasn’t one of them.

Chill place with a great menu. Outdoor and inside seating.

I tried the Chili Garlic Shrimp and the prawns were so huge, I had to cut them each into 3 pieces to eat. Had a lovely sweet chili flavor with a hint of garlic.

Bad food, don’t go here, I got dosa, and it didn’t taste good at all. Frozen chutneys, nothing seemed fresh.

Another okiesh Indian restaurant right next to Santa Monica pier. We reached at 9:30 PM and it was getting closed while timing on google was different. We requested for take away and the staff agreed. There was quite a variety on the menu, We ordered paneer and dal, however both tasted disaster. Would not recommend.

Small portions, overpriced dishes, and disappointing service. When we asked about the portion size not being entrée-sized, the waiter dismissed our concern by saying that all Santa Monica restaurants serve small portions. That excuse doesn’t work, especially when you’re speaking to a local.

Great service and friendly. Went on a weekday for dinner, was mostly empty. Very near to Santa Monica pier and Third street promenade if you can just take a stroll. Dropped one star just for the taste, although presentation was good, pictures attached. You can park at Santa Monica Place mall, first 90 min free.

Hands-down the best Indian food in LA for me!
Appetizers: Panipuris were crisp, fresh and the pani was just the right amount of tangy!
The wada pav was soft, crunchy and the idle fries are a stroke of genius.
The avocado bhelpuri are pretty dope! Never knew avocados would go that well with that spice palette.
Main course:
The butter chicken is so good and so rich! We ordered it twice!
The laccha parattha and the garlic naan compliment the dishes really well!
Dessert:
Kulfi: they have malai, pistachio and mango flavors! So smooth, so rich and a good portion size
The deconstructed carrot halwa: probably haven’t had dessert that good in a while. They serve it with ice cream and granola which gels so well with the halwa!
10/10- would come again

I discovered this place in the Michelin guide and thought I would try this Indian that wasn’t run of the mill. Wow ! It’s been a couple years since my tastebuds exploded with so much joy for Indian food. Flavors are strong but are not overpowering, every dish could stand on its own and complemented each other. Even the dessert had that creative audacity that closed the diner on a high note…
