Food is reasonable, but not great. We got a mix of breakfast/brunch items and a salad. Everyone felt like the food was good enough, but none of us were thrilled.

The service, however, was not great. To be fair to the team, they appeared under staffed and are still running their business on a Square card swapper plugged into an iPad… The business could use a smidge more investment.

The atmosphere is generally fun and the right vibe, though they’re missing some energy/life in the restaurant. Cute place.

The service was the only decent part of the visit—the waitresses were attentive and kind. The atmosphere was nice too, with a clean retro diner look, but the empty dining room made it clear the location isn’t doing them any favors.

Unfortunately, the food was downright disappointing. The hash browns were greasy, the turkey on my eggs Benedict tasted like it was past its expiration date, and the eggs were tiny. The Philly cheesesteak was mostly vegetables with barely any meat, and what little meat there was had almost no flavor. For the price, it felt like a complete letdown. The fries were the only thing that was okay, but that’s not saying much.

Overall, the meal was below average at best. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they completely overhaul the menu.

We were the only people on a Friday night which was surprising. First of all, they did not have the first three things i ordered off the menu, which was super weird. This included a butterscotch milkshake and tots. I finally ordered a beer float and stressed that I wanted Vanila ice-cream like two times. I was given Chocolate ice-cream instead. The fires were good and fresh though.

I don’t often get to enjoy diners, but let me tell you, Tucker Street Diner elevates the whole diner experience! It really captures that classic New York vibe, and the food is just fantastic. I’ve only tried their breakfast so far, but I can’t wait to dive into the other menu options. They have huge milkshakes, delicious coffee, and mouthwatering omelets—what more could you ask for? If you find yourself in Raleigh, NC, be sure to swing by the Smokey Hollow area and check it out!

I have no idea why this is rated a 4.2. Google reviews are usually spot on.

The food was excellent. Toast was nice and buttered. Bacon was cooked perfectly. Hashbrowns were nice and crisp and actually flavorful.

My wife got a breakfast burrito and she enjoyed hers very much.

We got an iced white chocolate mocha which was also very good (strong!).

$28 for two meals which neither of us finished and an iced coffee…in this economy??

Service was very fast and prompt and it was an “old timey” diner setting.

If I lived in the area I’d go back for sure.

This was our first time visiting Tucker Street Diner, and we really wanted to like it — downtown could use a good, reliable diner. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We specifically asked for real cracked eggs, but what we were served tasted like they came straight out of a carton — bland and rubbery. For a diner, that’s a big miss.
On the bright side, the milkshake was very good — rich, creamy, and the best part of the meal. However, the staff’s negative attitude took away from the experience.
We truly wish our first visit had been better, because we’d love to have a go-to breakfast spot in downtown Raleigh.

We were excited for a casual all day breakfast spot to open around the corner from us, but Tucker Street Diner was a shabby experience. Despite only two other parties in the restaurant, our server was MIA, and after finally ordering, it took 40 minutes for basic breakfast food to arrive for the four of us.
The pancakes were fine. The fried chicken? More like oversized freezer-aisle nuggets, a devastating blow to anyone expecting a Southern-style indulgence. The fruit bowl ($3 upcharge) was a half-filled ramekin of browning grapes and a few sad blueberries, which gave the distinct impression that they had been abandoned in the fridge overnight and served against their will. We will stick to pancakes, sausage and eggs going forward.
The worst part was the checkout process. We received an itemized bill, paid with a credit card, and were then handed back the card with a receipt with no breakdown—just a total that was mysteriously ~$8 higher. A quick calculation revealed that a 20% gratuity had been automatically added, but without transparency or notation, instead leaving a tip line as if we were expected to add a tip to this new total. As someone who tips a minimum of 20% for any service, I have zero issue with the tip amount, but the presentation was misleading at best and deceptive at worst. There was no subtotal, no line item showing the tip amount that had already been added, and no attentive server from whom to request an itemized copy to understand the discrepancy from the receipt provided earlier. This is a scammy business choice, please fix it. The auto-gratuity should appear on the receipt at the time of tipping and signing AND the server should inform guests of it upon providing the check. Otherwise, don’t do it.
We’ll give it another shot in a month because we acknowledge quality of service, kitchen speed and portion sizes can vary as the new staff is figuring things out. Once these issues are addressed, along with the sneaky auto-gratuity, we hope to make this place a staple for us and our downtown friends. I’ll be happy to update this review at that time.

I’ve been to Tucker Street Diner a few times since they opened—twice for dine-in and a few times for carryout—and it’s been great every time! The chicken salad is my go-to, and it never disappoints. The servers are always super friendly and attentive, which makes for a welcoming experience.

Like any new restaurant, they were packed in the first few days, so things moved a little slower—but that’s completely expected when a place is that popular. The food and service here are well worth the visit, and I’ll definitely keep coming back!

I love this!!!!!! Raleigh needs an all day breakfast/diner entity. The menu is HUGE and the food was amazing. Between options of breakfast and dinner i simply couldn’t decide! We got the ultimate club, which was to die for! Pancakes and their local homemade Oreo cake and chocolate cake slices. The atmosphere is that of an old fashioned diner that gives you the nostalgia of the good old days. I’m really not sure why everyone is giving negative reviews, my husband and I frequent the downtown raleigh restaurant scene and have been to almost every place provided upscale, quick and all of the in between. Dont let the negativity fool you, this diner is worth the stop. PSA, IF YOU’RE NOT FROM RALEIGH PR FAMILIAR WITH DOWNTOWN THIS PART OF SMOKY HOLLOW CANNOT BE SEEN FROM THE ROAD, YOU HAVE TO PARK AND EXPLORE!
