One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants! We come here at least once or twice every month. I once brought a Vietnamese elder who immigrated to Canada 60 years ago from Vancouver — he spoke Vietnamese with the server, who recommended the Bun Bo Hue (Vietnamese ham, beef brisket, pork balls with vermicelli in hot spicy soup). He said it tasted truly authentic, just like what he used to have back in Vietnam.

My personal favorite is the Bun Cha Ca Rau Can Doc Mung (fried fish cake with vermicelli in soup). The broth has tomato with a slightly sour and sweet taste — very appetizing! All the other dishes are delicious too, and the snacks are freshly fried, not pre-fried. Highly recommended!

We Google good restaurants around Nanaimo, Truong Thanh 2 is the only one open at 1030, and it has a Vietnamese grocery store beside it that we can pick up some Asian food before we head to our Airbnb. We decided to give it a try. The soup base is very rich and tasty, shrimp rolls is fresh. The Vietnamese coffee is not fresh brew, service is slow (maybe they are short staff). Overall is okay. If you are craving about soup noodle, it is not a bad choice.

It was very cold day and felt like a hot soup so we went to this Vietnamese restaurant because our “go-to”place was closed. We ordered regular menus, salad rolls, pho tai and seafood noodle soup. They were beyond expectations and the side basil and bean sprouts were so fresh.

It’s a tiny spot, and we were the only ones there when we arrived. But in just 20 minutes it filled up surprisingly fast. Even with more people, the service was quick and the server was friendly. We ordered two dishes: chicken wings and beef short ribs with vermicelli. The wings were amazing—well-seasoned, super crunchy, and juicy. The beef ribs were delicious, too, with big portions and high-quality food. I’ll definitely come back whenever I’m in the area.

Great place to enjoy tasty food at a good price. 🙂

My mother and i both enjoyed our chicken dishes. The staff were friendly. They keep it very clean and they also have a cute flower wall.
Make sure to check out their little shop next door. I got some tom yum sauce and noodles! I will definitely return.

As good as anything you’ll find in Vietnam. Phò is the best, whichever you order, my favorite is phò tái. Grilled meats are delicious, and some specialties deeper in the menu are always great.
Our favorite place, we’re there once a week at least. Attached store is good too.

Here’s a tip: if the name of the Vietnamese restaurant is hard to pronounce AND it has a number in it, you know it’s going to be good.
Second tip, if there’s no Vietnamese on the menus – that’s usually a bad sign.

Ok, so we stayed on the island for two nights and we still somehow managed to squeeze two Vietnamese meals in. The first one was very “meh” but TT2 was WOW.

We knew it was going to be good once we stepped in, the familiar smells and aromas hitting our nose. Glancing over the menu too heightened my expectations as they have many delicious sounding options. I settled for the Satay pho and my wife got her usual lemongrass chicken on rice.

The soup in the Satay is coconutty and peanutty with a slight kick. It really warms the soul on a cold day. Not every restaurant offers this option of pho and not every one does it well either. I can say that this one was very good and really hit the spot.

My wife’s lemongrass chicken was excellent. The chicken had strong flavour and cooked perfectly.

We chatted up the waitress for a little bit and found out that this is actually the sister restaurant to the original that is in Vancouver on Kingsway. We thought the name sounded familiar. We have eaten at the Vancouver shop before. After eating here, I think we’ll go back to the Van shop again soon.

So final thoughts, really really good food here. Might be the best on the island in terms of Viet. We will need to do some more exploring next time.

Ray’s tips:
Lots of free parking in front of the restaurant.
Credit cards accepted.
There’s an attached grocery store that sells many Vietnamese and Asian items. Have a look after your meal.

Don’t walk. RUN and get their special Bun Bo Hue! Such a rich hearty broth, but not heavy. The server is a lovely lady! So glad there is quality Vietnamese food in Nanaimo.

First time in Nanimo, and was fortunate to find this authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Service is quick and friendly. The pho was tasty, good quality, and good portion. I like that they have a spring roll or salad roll combo with a pho. Great for one person, instead of ordering a full side. I will definitely be trying their Vancouver location as well.
