The Dosa and Poori Sagu were so tasty and authentic — just like real South Indian flavours!
Quick service, clean space, and the vibe was awesome with great music playing in the background.
Highly recommended if you’re craving delicious South Indian food with good atmosphere and friendly service! ️❤️
While waiting, we ordered filter coffee, which was quite good. As South Indians from the Telugu states—and with experience running a vegetarian restaurant in India for many years—we have a good understanding of tiffins and food quality. We ordered ghee podi thatte idli, Mysore masala dosa, pori palya, and plain dosa. The service was quick, and the food arrived one by one without much delay.
The food was decent, but the spice levels and flavors felt toned down, likely adjusted to Western tastes rather than authentic Karnataka standards. If you are familiar with traditional Karnataka tiffins, you may find the flavors a bit mild.
That said, if you are passing through Whitby and looking for Karnataka-style dosa or tiffins, this place is worth trying. Ambience and parking are good, and the staff does a great job with service and customer handling. Small improvements like keeping napkins on the table would enhance the experience.
Overall, decent food, fast service, good hospitality, and a good place to visit once in a while.
We had a really good experience at Truly Bangalore.
The food was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The dosa was crispy and delicious, and the Ghee Podi Thatte Idly was especially good — full of authentic taste.
Service was prompt and polite, and the overall experience was very pleasant. Everything from food quality to service was well managed.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for good.
Truly Bangalore – A Hidden Gem of South Indian Flavours in Whitby!
If you’re craving authentic South Indian food, Truly Bangalore in Whitby is an absolute must visit. This small, cozy restaurant beautifully captures the essence of south indias comfort food and hospitality.
We ordered their Dipped Idli, and it was simply wow! The idlis were perfectly soft and fluffy, completely soaked in flavorful sambar that had a rich, tomato-based tang and just the right amount of spice. Every bite melted in the mouth.
The Onion Masala Dosa was another highlight which was incredibly crispy on the outside, yet soft inside, generously filled with spiced potato and onions. It was served with three chutneys, coconut, tomato, and mint, all freshly made and bursting with authentic South Indian flavors.
We ended the meal with a piping hot Filter Coffee served in the traditional stainless steel tumbler and davara. The aroma, frothy texture, and perfect balance of strong decoction with milk and sweetness made it the perfect finish to a wonderful meal.
The ambiance is warm, simple, and welcoming. It feels like stepping into a little piece of Bangalore right here in Whitby. The staff were courteous and attentive, adding to the overall homely experience.
Whether you’re a fan of dosas, idlis, or just want to explore South Indian cuisine, Truly Bangalore offers a truly authentic experience that’s hard to find elsewhere in the Durham region.
We decided to try this place that’s over an hour’s drive for us, but it was worth the drive.
As we visited on a snowy weekend afternoon for lunch, we decided to call upfront for a reservation. The place was packed, with all tables occupied. Had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table.
We were informed that the chaats would be served after 2 PM, so decided to start with the Idli vada combo and dose/dosa. Idli vada sambar dip and Rava idli were delicious. Saagu served with rava idli was spot on and reminded us of the one served in Bengaluru. Idli, Vada and Sambar were served piping hot and the sambar was very close to Bengaluru style. Set dose, Podi Masala dose and Chalukya style dose were prepared very well. Set dose was fluffy and others were crispy, with the potato palya (curry) going well with the dose. Coconut and tomato Chutneys were great as well. Masala puri was finger-licking good (served after 2 PM). Very close to the one that we get in Bengaluru. Serving portions are good as well.
Overall, a great experience. Kudos to the Truly Bangalore team for keeping it close to the Bengaluru style and taste.
The ambience and vibe are great, but the food is the real star here! Here is what we tried:
Idli Vada Sambar: Classic and well-executed.
Onion Mysore Masala Dosa: Perfectly crisp.
Ghee Thatte Idli: The absolute highlight! The way the ghee was oozing out was incredible.
Bisi Bele Bath: Hearty, flavorful and spicy, but the not-so-sour raita and boondi were perfect pairing
Chikoo Milkshake: Refreshing.
The Sambar and coconut chutney were a solid 9/10, but the tomato chutney was a perfect 10/10. We were so full that we had to take the Kesari Bhath to go!
Service can be a bit slow on weekends, but it’s just a testament to the place’s popularity. If you come with a relaxed mind and a hungry stomach, you’re in for a treat.
All the dosas taste so similar to the ones you get in Bangalore.
Masala Puri is a must try if you’re visiting in the evening.
