I have made the trip between the twin cites and Fargo numerous times and had to stop for food in over a dozen places and this is hands-down the best restaurant on the 94 corridor. Located just far enough from the road you dont see or hear it and possibly top 5% of family restaurants i’ve ever been to.
The atmosphere is so welcoming and cozy, the staff is absolutely amazing and the food is inexpensive and to die for. Occasionally you walk into a place and you can just tell every detail has been attended to and love has been put into it. This place does not exist solely for a profit, the people working there were so well-mannered, happy and made you feel like you’d just walked into a family member’s home.
We ordered pizza from our server Pam who was probably the friendliest and most attentive server we’ve had in a year or more. Possibly top 10 best pizzas I’ve ever had as well. Crust so soft and deliscious, loads of quality toppings and a 16″ for $20 will easily feed three to four hungry adults. We liked it so much i had to ask the name of the chef and was told “Mom’s name is Marlynn and she says she always makes everything with love.” They say “They dont make em like this anymore.” This place illustrates that point perfectly!
In addition to traditional family seating and menu options (a wide variety of them I’ll add) there is also a cafe/bistro store front serving coffee, tea, baked goods, heartier food items (soup, sandwiches, etc.) and ice cream if you’re in a bit of a hurry.
The drive on 94 may be a bit of a drag, but I for one will not dread it half as much knowing I’ll make time to stop at True North Cafe from now on!

Stopped by this little gem. Very happy with my find. Had breakfast with my mom. Service was good and the food was excellent. My mom and I both ordered the Skinny omelet I had mine with toast and my mom had hers with the pancake. Nothing skinny about this meal. Packed full of ham and a pancake that filled a plate of its own.

What a great addition to Melrose, very clean and friendly atmosphere. I’m not a hash brown fan but this place has the best. Very well priced, and you truly get what you paid for. Oh the coffee isn’t “restaurant coffee” far better tasting!! Nice work True North!
