There was wallpaper & some pictures on the walls throughout the restaurant. Keeping in mind that it’s a diner…it was a little small. The wait however was similar to any other place 20-30 mins wait. As we sat it was noted that the tables were flipped pretty fast to accommodate those waiting.
Food:
We were served some complimentary biscuits and strawberry compote once we ordered. Those were tasty along with the jelly or syrup provided. They were dense and buttery. I thought that was a nice touch. The picture speak for itself. The pancakes were sweet so syrup wasn’t needed. The smoked sausage was cooked to perfection!! The prices were reasonable for the portions.
Warning: they do not serve alcoholic beverages!
As a first time guest, I’d go back!
I ordered the Cajun Smoked Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit ($16). The presentation of the dish was as we’re the ingredients. I was a little hesitant about the habenero butter but it worked well and sounded spicier than it was. On the international hot food scale, I’d give it a 2.5. I would definitely have that again.
My wife had the Ultimate Biscuits and Gravy ($16) and chose the sausage option. It came with sliced tomatoes, red peppers, 2 eggs, and was swimming in a rich gravy. She thought most of the ingredients were tasty alone but when mixed together, it was a home run. This said, she found the sausage to have a strong flavor that wasn’t altogether desirable, but worked fine when enjoined with the rest of the plate.
Our friend ordered the Hot Honey Chicken & Waffles ($21). The waffle was large and fluffy yet crispy. The boneless fried chicken was cooked perfectly. This dish was more spicy than my Cajun smoked sausage. I would rate it about a 3-3.5 (out of 10) on the international spiciness scale. More hot than I would have enjoyed, but not intolerable.
The waitstaff were attentive and very friendly, without hovering. The atmosphere was casual, clean, and tidy.
I got the cheesy grits and peach marscapone French toast. Delicious, but sweet. I had to take my French toast home with me because I can’t take too much sugar. The cheesy grits are probably my #1 restaurant grits. (My wife makes the best, no one should fault me for that.) My wife got the open face omlette with smothered potatoes…. she said the eggs were fluffy and all the flavors really came through. The curried chicken sausage was amazing. The smothered potatoes were delicious! The gravy was thick enough to coat the potatoes but not crazy thick like a sausage gravy. Everything came out individually, but piping hot.
The service was fantastic. The gentleman had a dry sense of humor which matched ours perfectly. He was a perfect fit for us.
I will be recommending this to everyone I know who visits the area!!
We were given a biscuit with the jam of the day: Strawberry. It was delicious! I ordered the duck biscuit & gravy potatoes. their gravy was a staple for me. My fiance ordered the chicken & waffles and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the hot honey on the chicken.
We will definitely come back when we are in town!
Food came out quick and the server was excellent and attentive. The crab omelet and fried chicken seemed a bit underseasoned. That is the only criticism. The chicken was crispy and very tender otherwise. Everything else from the French toast, pork chop, southern egg sandwich were phenomenal. Parking is a bit limited in front of the restaurant but larger open parking in the shopping center is available.
Overall, great place for brunch. Would come again.
About the food:
We ordered the Whiskey Soaked strawberry French toast. French toast was great! Served with warm syrup on the side. Eggs and bacon were tasty (parsley was unnecessary). Strawberries did not taste like whiskey or much of anything. They were just kind of soggy, not very sweet. The strawberry butter was the same. We were served some complimentary biscuits and strawberry compote once we ordered. Those were tasty! The dense and buttery kind not on the super flaky side for those that like one more than the other style. The strawberry compote didn’t have much flavor to it. Tasted like blended frozen strawberries.
Also ordered the roasted duck grits. It was really good but not worth $20. The roasted duck ragu was more sauce than duck. It was almost like a scattered topping. The duck and chicken sausage was good but wasn’t chopped well enough to bite into. Just kind of like chunked up links.
Great portions for both dishes.
Music was too loud for a conversation but when I looked around, the guests all seemed to enjoy their experience and food.
We will come again and give another try for sure.
