We just so happened to be in the area when we smelled the delicious smell of bbq. We decided to give True a chance. They were celebrating their one year anniversary with a Taki party. And their food was delicious. Omg Their smoked cornbeef was to die for. I could go back and ask for a platter of just that along with so many of their delicious drinks. We are glad we stumbled into their place because we will definitely be back again. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere .

Went out and met some family in crown point for a meal, and on a whim we ended up at True BBQ and Whiskey Bar, just right off the square in town. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m glad we came in! The bar had a nice energy to it, and we were quickly seated and taken care of.
In terms of drinks, I was not expecting to get something alcoholic, but our waitress brought out a seasonal drink menu for Halloween, and how can I turn down the opportunity for absinthe? I ordered myself the Night of the Living Dead, which had absinthe, rum, some bitters, lime, and a few other assorted additions. The big eye draw is the actual syringe that has MORE rum and grenadine in it. Administer 50CC’s of the syringe mixture to the “skull” and you’ll be feeling quite good, and it tastes great as well.
As someone who eats generally plant based, I was skeptical about finding food options for me at a BBQ joint in Northwest Indiana. However, True BBQ actually does have a handful of vegan options, conveniently listed as such on the menu. I ordered the Vegan Pulled Pork Sandwich, which was made with some delicious jackfruit and topped with a mild barbecue sauce and some vegan slaw. The barbecue sauce paired with the jackfruit gave me the flavor I was looking for, but also a similar texture, which can be important for taste. After crushing my sandwich and cleaning off those messy fingers I rounded my meal out with those fries, which were surprisingly crunchy for a big as they are! Those fries definitely hit the spot, a great way to wrap a quality meal.
I don’t often find reasons to come out to Crown Point these days, but maybe I’m going to have to start fabricating excuses, because this was a great visit and I look forward to the next!

This place is out of this world great! The food, service, ambiance, everything! Pretty much everything we tried was homemade and you could really taste the difference! The crafted cocktails were amazing! And we learned, Allison, (one of the professional and friendly bartenders that waited on us, created the drink menu from scratch. They were named so cute and cleverly. Lots of 90’s theme. Barnes also waited on us and he, too, made the experience memorable! Friendly, professional, made us feel at home! He made our cocktails that were great! He made great suggestions about the bbq sauces, homemade chips, and meats. We shared a meat plate. The brisket was fall apart tender! The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes were homemade and out of this world! And the sides served in big bowls so more than enough portions! Special thanks to Barnes especially(he was so sweet and amazing), Allison, and Johnny! Great staff, great food! We didn’t have room for dessert but they showed their desserts on a tray and they looked amazing! This is a favorite place for sure! *new crown point location. It’s only been open 2 months and during covid!

Mixed feelings. Potatoe chips were bland. Pickles were the sweet variety. French fries looked cool, but were pretty doughy. Sauces were ok, but all very similar (was hoping the “hot” one would have some heat). Slaw was not so good either. BUT the chicken burger was very nice! Probably won’t return though, from this experience and the prices.

We were there on Friday late. They were still serving food . I ordered the nachos and they were very accommodating. The also had a DJ playing and that was fun.

First time in and the staff was friendly, and the place very clean with a very relaxed vibe. The cocktails were great, our food was amazing with great depth of flavor. Definitely would make the drive to dine again.

Food was pretty bomb, loved the rib tips. Gf got the brisket and it was a bit dry and my friend hated his salmon, tried it and I hated it too. I was pretty happy with my food, so I’ll rate off my plate. $4 martinis was decent too.

BEST RESTAURANT ON THE CP SQUARE, HANDS DOWN. Great experience here at True BBQ thanks to Jonny Vargas, the manager. He was so attentive and ensured our meal was up to par. The food was delicious and it’s such a great spot to hang out with friends. Give this place a try!
