This restaurant is a new, tasty hole-in-the-wall spot tucked in the back of a grocery store — and it’s worth every bit of the discovery! The owner, Syvone, greeted and served me with such kindness and efficiency. She was incredibly pleasant (and patient — which I appreciate since I can be a little indecisive sometimes, LOL).
I ordered jerk chicken, mac & cheese, steamed veggies, oxtail, and rice & peas for my boyfriend and me, and everything was phenomenal. They offer three portion sizes (small to large), but honestly, every size is generous! That’s a huge plus in my book.
There’s nothing quite like this in the Derby area — no other spot is serving up authentic Jamaican food like this. It may be a little bit of a drive for some, but it’s 100% worth it. The vibrant personalities of the assistants, Ellie and Johnay, added so much to the experience. These young ladies were hilarious and truly brought the island vibes and humor while delivering excellent, efficient service.
Syvone, thank you for bringing Tru-Vine Creations to Derby! We’ve been in desperate need of some authentic Jamaican cuisine, and you’ve delivered. This was an amazing first-time experience — definitely not my last! You’ve got a loyal customer in me.
Quick note: There’s currently no dine-in seating (yet!), and parking can get a little tight depending on the time of day. But aside from that — it’s absolutely worth checking out!

My boyfriend and I went here after my father’s funeral service and we were so welcomed by such pleasant, friendly workers and very excited to try the food. We got their jerk chicken, rice and cabbage and it was delicious! I live in New Haven but am very much looking forward to going back to the Valley area so we can stop by there again!
