I brought my wife for the 4 course tasting menu for her birthday. The food was fresh, creative and most important of all, delicious. I appreciated they were able to accommodate a vegetarian tasting menu that was still filling and satisfying. I really enjoyed the intentionality of Chef Joe coming out and explaining each dish to us. While this is clearly a high end place, the food is approachable and delicious. You can feel the passion and love in it! Front of house was great and the overall experience was just awesome. My wife said it felt like she was having dinner in an art gallery! We will absolutely be back.
We made our way to the bar for libations and light bites. The happy hour snacks were perfect appeTEASERs. I mean this in a good way. We had the arancini (2pcs) and the duck dumplings (2pc). Both dishes were packed with flavor. Perfectly crisp arancini over a wildly interesting strawberry gochujang sauce, 10/10. The duck dumplings were delicate and savory; the duck broth complemented swimmingly without stealing the show. 10/10. Both dishes jump started our palates. (No time for pictures)
For entrees we decided on the crispy duck leg and the seafood pasta. My partner and I have been craving duck ever since the closing of the oyster society in Petersburg. This dish was not a miss. Nice crunch even after being topped with the tomato pan sauce. The brioche was incredibly intuitive in this plate: I used it to sponge up all of the drippings. 10/10
Seafood Pasta: 5 nice sized pieces of shrimp accompanied by hand pulled crab in a creamy miso sauce. The fettuccine was cooked well, carrying the sauce tightly. Then surprise, there was corn! Awesome, 10/10, will do again.
She needed a box, I needed a nap.
We were gifted a beignet with maple ice cream and a chicken skin topper. Salty, sweet, crunchy. Holy smokes! Something to write home about.
Needless to say this will be a regular spot of ours.
Great service, very cool atmosphere, a staff that just “gets it”.
Parking can be a drag but we learned there’s a deck a block away. We probably should have walked this meal off anyway.
Steak tartare and duck dumplings were delicious. The cocktail, the Lombardy was one of the better cocktails I’ve had in a while.
Atmosphere was great. Lighting and music were appropriate. It was quiet when I got there but was picking up when I was leaving.
Wish I’d taken more pictures and had more
time to try more, but so will be back.
Parked on the street a block or so away.
Our “fresh” bread came out hot in the inside, cold as a fridge on the inside. Obviously made fresh but reheated. When we pointed this out they reheated it again and did not comp it, after our main meal had come out.
The water was warm, I assume because it’s tap because it’s so hot out. Maybe consider a separate fridge for the water carafes.
The decor is… off putting. There is no soul and barely and decor to say is even there. There is a reason all the aesthetic pictures are in the dark.
The other food was good, and the service super friendly.
All in all it’s close to being good but not quite there, especially for nice dining prices. I would not come back until they improve the above
The cozy decor creates a private and quiet atmosphere, perfect for a romantic dinner or an intimate gathering with close friends. Interestingly, it reminded me of DOM, a two-Michelin-star restaurant in São Paulo, Brazil.
Speaking of Michelin, Trouvaille should have at least started in the Bib Gourmand category, if not with a well-deserved one star.
The menu is concise, with every dish prepared with incredible attention to detail and flavor. From the tableware to the presentation, the plates are a feast for the eyes before delighting the palate. The prices are fair for such a refined and thoughtful experience, and the highlight is the She Crab Soup, which outshines the one at Blue in Virginia Beach.
Kudos to the team! Highly recommended!
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was excellent. If you’re looking for a spot that takes quality seriously, Trouvaille is the place to go.
Also I had the candy bar for dessert, omg it’s so good, get it. Just get it, this was our first time here and we will be coming back.
