Came in after work to decompress before going home dealing with my kids. I was immediately seated. I asked the waiter if the honey old bay wings were dry rub (I’m normally a lemon pepper girlie) compared to the honey glaze. He said yes.
So, I ordered them with a side of cabbage and mac and cheese. I also ordered their frozen island drink.
I waited for quite some time (restaurant was basically empty). I was getting impatient and wondered why I hadnt been brought a water or anything in the meantime. The waiter came back and asked me to confirm if I wanted my drink frozen. I reconfirmed and then asked for a glass of water.
My food came out before I got any drink. I immediately noticed that the chicken was glossy. I ask the server if that was the honey old Bay wings I’d ased for because I was told they were dry rub. He said they were honey glaze. He took them back and told me he would bring me the correct one. Meanwhile, my drink finally comes from the bar, overflowing…a mess. But it did taste good.
I ate the cabbage, but I did notice it tasted different then usual as that’s something that I normally would get here. It wasn’t too bad, so I ate it. I got to the mac and cheese and immediately noticed that the entire perimeter of the mac and cheese was burnt and stuck to the bowl it was loaded with so much grated parm cheese on top, you couldn’t taste anything else. I quickly sat that to the side, because who was eating that? I boxed it up though. Maybe a kid will eat it.
My initial waiter then comes to the table with my new order of chicken, finally. It is equally as glossy as before. I asked him, what kind of chicken is that. He said it was the correct type this time. So I asked him, why would you tell me it was dry, rub, if you clearly knew the chicken wasn’t dry. His reply was well, oh, it has a little bit of something on it, like a little bit of honey.
I sent it back and asked for my check. So I ended up spending $28 on a drink and some cabbage.
Very disappointed.
I was going to try to talk to the manager instead of leaving a review. So, I sat at the table and waited to see if the waiter would ever come back, but he didn’t. I think he was eating in the kitchen or something.
Anywho…
Now, i’m stuck trying to figure out where i’m going wings from tonight because I have my mouth set on them.
The mac n cheese definitely wasnt my style. Others may like it, but it has a different taste then I’m used to. (When this place was called “Jerk n Jive” their mac n cheese was my favorite. )
I’m looking forward to trying the Oxtail next time, and some other items on the menu.
Here I’m giving the oxtail and a five star . They were delicious and flavorful. Oxtail cooked to the perfection, easy to take off the bone & flavor was authentic. The rice came with it was a perfect complement. Chicken wings were bursting with flavors and not dry. Also the portions of the sides were plentiful, very solid.
Highly recommend by @winedinenvacay
and we are looking forward to dine in person in the near future.
The music and the atmosphere scream positive vibes. Eat, drink, dance, chill – it’s an all in one place for whatever mood you’re in.
The owners Kevin and Kamike are the best! They go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and right at home.
Definitely check this spot out! You won’t regret it.
