Trattoria at Mercato has brought incredible food, beer, wine, and atmosphere to Bellingham’s waterfront. There is ample parking close by, gorgeous views, prompt and friendly service, and knowledgeable staff. The fresh-made dishes are delicious! I will be coming here a lot in the future.

Went for a dinner date and we ordered the Greek Salad, gnocchi, chicken Parm, and cannoli. We shared everything and had leftovers. Overall the food was pretty good and the service was great and really friendly. I enjoyed the tomatoe sauce (very tomatoey). The focaccia was Great. Gnocchi was tasty and the chicken Parm was a huge portion. A few feedback notes are: I would prefer a little less salt in the chicken Parm and focaccia. The Greek salad was good, but a missed opportunity to showcase the amazing local tomatoes the one has to offer this time of year. My impression was that the food was all premade and reheated/plated to order. Overall good experience and I would give it another try. Great location. Interesting space.

I brought my visiting family here for the first time last weekend and was extremely impressed by absolutely everything. First, the atmosphere is wonderful! Somehow it manages to be both elevated and family-friendly at the same time. I particularly enjoyed that the table spacing made it easy to have conversations and feel relaxed, not rushed like other places. The food was also wonderful! The focaccia was unlike any I’ve had before–truly amazing! We all had different dishes, and we all agreed the food was superb. Finally, though, the service was exceptional; very friendly and attentive, including the owners, who stopped by our table to greet us and chat for a bit. I don’t often leave reviews, but this is a worthy one, and I look forward to returning!

A Neighborhood Gem with Heart and Soul
Trattoria at Mercato has become our go-to spot, and it’s not just about the food (though we’ll get to that!). What makes this place truly special is the palpable sense of joy and camaraderie among the staff. You can feel it the moment you walk in—everyone, from the servers to the owners, genuinely enjoys working together. We’ve been there on packed evenings when they’re absolutely slammed, and it’s beautiful to watch everyone pitch in for each other’s tables without missing a beat. It’s the kind of workplace culture you hope exists but rarely see in action.
The space itself is wonderful—housed in an actual historic granary on a working waterfront, they’ve leaned into the nautical and industrial themes in a way that feels authentic rather than contrived. It’s cozy but not cramped, with character in every corner.
Now, about that food: We’re vegetarians, but our family members aren’t, and everyone always leaves happy. The focaccia appetizer with three spreads is always our starter—it’s simple but perfectly executed. The Greek salad is fresh and generous, and their gnocchi are absolutely phenomenal (honestly, some of the best we’ve had). The stromboli is a family favorite, and when we splurge on dessert, the tiramisu never disappoints.
This is the kind of restaurant that makes you feel like a regular even if you’re not, because the staff so clearly loves what they do and the people they work with. That energy is infectious and makes every visit feel special.

We got there early for dinner so food took a little bit but I really didn’t mind waiting because they had jazz music and a really good rose.
We had spinach stromboli, gnocchi and chicken parmesan all done perfectly. The caprese salad perfect. Mozzarella and tomatoes and a little bit of Basil with super good balsamic vinegar. All simple yet perfect. Dessert perfect cannoli. Cannolis somehow are so easy to do wrong. This one was perfect. The bread at this place is unbelievable. I’ll be back for sandwiches at the deli that has more hours.
I hope this place is super successful, not as successful storia cucina because then I couldn’t get a table. But it’s that good.

We went to Trattoria for dinner this evening after much discussion and listing the usual spots as options. We figured a restaurant with 5 main course options must do those 5 options REALLY well. Well, it did not disappoint.
The location is fantastic, inside the restaurant is clean and inviting. Many windows mean a bright location with fun art prints on the wall and a clear shot into the neighboring Mercato sandwich shop (also INCREDIBLE). The owner, Francesco and his wife are just lovely.
Our group had the gnocchi, the chicken parm and the lasagna and absolutely everything was divine. Rich sauces, pillowy gnocchi, the best chicken parm I have ever had. We finished our meal feeling satisfied, not overly stuffed. Just perfect.
We had the tiramisu for dessert which was light, airy, deliciously creamy.
We will most definitely be back to support this small business and the beautiful family who run it.

Had an excellent dinner and enjoyed every aspect of it. The cheerful service was excellent, the food was very good and reminded me of the good meals I have had when visiting Italy, also nice atmosphere. We dined during the 5th Mariner/Blue Jay game so not many guests as most people were probably glued to their tv at home. I expect that normally would be more crowded as this place provides such a nice dining experience. Will definitely be coming back.

The lasagna is so good! It is the best lasagna I’ve ever had, hands down. The spinach pasta noodles are made fresh daily. This lasagna is not only good, but also doesn’t sit heavy do you feel like you’re stuffed after eating the large square. Another of my favorite things to get is the tiramisu! It’s delicious fresh and next day! I get the tiramisu every time I go there, usually to go, so I have it the next day! It’s so good! Please give Trattoria at Mercato a try! You won’t be disappointed.

The staff are very nice. The service was very slow and that was at a time with hardly any people in the restaurant. The free focaccia bread was good. The chicken parm was average. The eggplant parm was ok, however it does not come with pasta but the chicken parm did. Not sure how that makes sense. There are not vegetables provided with the main entrees. Overall, I would say this meal, which cost over $60, was not a good value. If the expectation is that everything such as pasta, entree, vegetables be ordered separately, reducing the prices would make sense Leaving is very poor impression for a first visit and ensures there won’t be a repeat visit.

Wonderful people, beautiful building and atmosphere, and the food was absolutely amazing! Although when you have top chefs in the kitchen it’s bound to be amazing. The wine selection is great as well and they definitely know what pairs well with what.
