My parents moved our family to Taylor, AZ in 1974 shortly after Trappers first opened in 1973. We lived down the street and saw the devastation of the fire in 82, and subsequent reopening. A few years later we moved very far away. It’s been 40 years since our family left, but prior to when we came back to visit, I remember the whole time how my mother would talk about how amazing the pie at Trapper’s was. She wished she could get her crusts to be as amazing as theirs. I left as a small child and had no memory other than through the memories of my mom and eldest sister. I finally got to taste the pies and I’m pleased to announce that a 40 year build up in no way disappointed. Let’s just say, “The pie is good” . The overall experience was charming. The dinner was wholesome and delicious. The wait staff was courteous and professional. I hope it’s not another 40 years until I come back.

If you are in the area, you gotta try this place.

Parking is in the back. Go in where the Trappers wall is.

It looks rustic on the outside but, when you go inside its a whole new look.

The food is amazing and the service is spot on. Our server was Sara and she rocks in service and customer experience.

This was my first time here but my parents had been here before. The food has gone down hill a bit. So I can’t really recommend much in terms of the general food. The pies however are excellent and you can buy them to go. If you’re going to buy a pie make sure you order it ahead of time because they won’t necessarily have what you want the day of. The service was a little slow. The floors a bit dirty. Some of the lights were a blue white when they really should be warm white. And we had a fly in our water once. I know they can get better and hopefully will be better soon!

The host and servers are kind and very attentive. The food is nice and hot. We ordered chicken fried steak and hamburger steak. We still want to try their desserts.

I had the biscuits and gravy with bacon and eggs on the side. The bacon was really crispy. The biscuit and gravy were better than McDonald’s but I have had better that’s why the 4 star review.

Trappers Cafe’s chicken fried steak has completely ruined me in the best way possible. It’s so perfectly crispy, tender, and packed with flavor that every other chicken fried steak I’ve tried since just falls short. No matter where I go, I’m always comparing it to Trappers, and nothing even comes close. Their version set the bar way too high—and now I’m spoiled for life.

Their selection of pies is amazing. So is the taste. I’m lucky I don’t live close enough to go there often. Lemon Cream, Orange Cream, & German Chocolate pies were great. Had a couple slices in the restaurant & took a pie to go share with others. Staff was friendly & helpful. Parking is a lot two spaces South of the restaurant.

Wonderful food. We got the biscuit’s & gravy and country fried steak and loved it! The country relaxed atmosphere was really nice, especially with the cute decorations. And we got our food really fast! (Faster than I get stuff from McDonald’s sometimes!) Next time I’m grabbing a pie to go!

My family and I eat out quite a bit, as it’s our family time after a busy work/school week. Neither one of us have ever had a very good experience at Trappers the few times we have been here but wanted to give it another chance. WELL…. nothing has changed. The restaurant was completely empty on a Saturday afternoon, not a good sign. The waitress was very non personable and never asked if we needed refills or how we were doing. The food prices are steep which is the case everywhere but we had to pay 3 dollars for every side we got…cottage cheese, side of gravy and every extra ingredient on the burgers is extra $. The food is alright, not exceptional. The hubbs got a burger and fries with a drink, my kids shared a kids meal and I got a hot beef sandwich…adding the cottage cheese and gravy with just water. Our ticket came to about 54$. The plates look nice, the enviornment is cozy with dim lighting and love that they leave the water at your table to help yourself. They are famous for their pies which are yummy…but really that’s it. Great if you’re looking for pie but there are many better family joints on the mountain. The skillet, streets on main, even Alibertos or El cupidos… that’s just Snowflake/Taylor. Los Corralles and Long wongs in Pinetop/Lakeside are my favorites. Anyhow…I guess this place is a hit and miss, but we keep missing
