First, this may just be my personal preference, but the music was very loud for 4 p.m. I felt like I was at a Friday night party instead of an afternoon meal. My friend and I basically had to yell across the table just to have a conversation. Great for a dance floor, maybe a little intense for ribs and casual catch-up.
Speaking of ribs, I’m a huge rib fan. Honestly, they’re probably my favorite food. The fried ribs here were good, but they didn’t quite taste like they had just come out fresh. It felt more like they had been made earlier and reheated. Still tasty, but when I’ve had them from the food truck, they tasted like someone just made them five seconds ago and handed them to me with pride. Freshness makes a big difference with ribs.
The sides were okay, but a little underwhelming, especially the mac and cheese. I’ve had it from the food truck before and it was fantastic, but this time it felt like it may have been made earlier in the day and reheated. Not terrible, just not the same magic I remember.
Now for the positives. The drinks were excellent, well made and definitely a highlight of the visit. The service was also great. The guy helping us was friendly, attentive, and checked in on us regularly. Big thumbs up to him.
All in all, if the food had come out piping hot and freshly made, this easily could have been a 5-star visit. I’m planning to come back and give it another try because I know how good it can be. If the next visit hits that fresh-out-the-kitchen level, I’ll happily bump up the stars.
For now, I’m landing at about 3.5 stars. Good experience overall, just a few things that could be improved.
Customer service was poor. No smile, no friendly demeanor. Just a blank stare from the cashier.
I got the fried chicken wings w/ cabbage & mac. My partner got turkey wings w/cabbage & mashed potatoes. Oh boy. The chicken wings were rubbery and tasted like pure season salt and grease. The cabbage was sour. And I could not stomach one bite of the Mac. There was macaroni but no cheese. See photo. My man couldn’t even chew through those tough, hard turkey wings.
We were disappointed because we wanted to like this place and support local business. This place has a lot of potential with a better chef, lighter atmosphere and friendlier front of house staff.
