I had a chance to try a few of the menu offerings at the Trading Post this week. On my first visit I ordered a Frito pie and French fries. The Frito pie was pretty good , the hand cut fries were also decent but IMO they’re cut too thin since they’re ¼” cut (almost shoestring), instead of a standard thicker ½” cut.

The second visit was with my Taos family, we ordered a couple of appetizers consisting of chicken fingers , green chili brisket Mac & cheese and a few burgers. Everyone agreed that the Burgers are definitely the right choice to go with on this menu. They’re flame broiled with nicely sized brioche buns. One of the burgers was the brisket burger, I personally disliked the braised brisket which was shredded and tossed in BBQ sauce and not actually barbecued in a smoker, but I really liked the Swiss Bacon burger which I would recommend anyone to order or go with the build your own option.

The restaurant has a has a cool vibe with some nice stuff for sale on the walls and in the market refrigerators, the pies were definitely a bit overpriced. The service was friendly and even the house cat rubbing its body against my legs at the table while we were eating was cute.

Do not pass on this restaurant! Beat all the traffic and reservation making and enjoy a nice hot freshly cooked to order meal. Family friendly, with games available while you wait. We played UNO. Large back wall full of interesting books to look through, which we did. The owner Ky was very welcoming and attentive. Really nice guy, he served us our food. Which was delicious! We had, the creamy chicken and asparagus soup, FANTASTIC!!! The prime rib with mashed potatoes, BBQ sliders, garden salad with pesto dressing (AMAZING) and mac and cheese! All really really good! Also, kids eat free! I should gave mentioned that earlier! After a day of boarding, it was great to finish the day with a delicious meal in an authentic Taos restaurant.

The wife and I were searching for a place to eat other than Mexican food which Taos has plenty of. We decided to try the Trading Post Market. It’s a hole in the wall looking place from the outside. We’ve passed it a number of times never imagining it to be a restaurant. There isn’t many alternative restaurants outside of Mexican food in Taos. Anyway, we arrived and to our surprise it’s a cute spot once you’re inside. Bigger than it seems from the outside. It’s sort of divided between the bar side and the restaurant. They even have a back area with books and comfortable seating if you want to read or hangout with a glass of wine. Well we took a look at the menu. It’s loaded with BBQ dishes, some New Mexico alternatives, sandwiches and even a pasta dish or two. I started with the chili stew soup. It was recommended to me by our server who was very nice and gracious. She mentioned the chef being an award winner . Hmmm, ok I’ll try it. The chili stew soup was delicious! Best stew soup I’ve ever tasted. So flavorful, so delicious and filling. I had already ordered the BBQ brisket in Mac n Cheese dish. My wife chose the Mahi Mahi fish tacos. I can’t begin to describe the delicious flavor from both dishes. This place rocks! Everything was better than good. My compliments to the chef. So, don’t be put off by the outward appearance. Just step right in and order anything on the menu. They’re friendly and waiting for you. They have beer wine and cocktails. The food will overwhelm you. 5 experience.

Looks like a hole in the wall passing by, but it’s quite a large restaurant inside. Features a variety of cuisines–the onion rings, truffle fries, brisket quesadilla, and french dip were all enjoyed. The hamburger not as much, but that was my fault for not realizing that I should have chosen diced, not smothered, green chiles.

So… i’ve never been here for breakfast before, just for a quick lunch, but their burgers are great and the green chili stew is the best, but breakfast here…?! Sooo freakin good! I wouldn’t do anything else to this meal. The chilies are so perfect and distinct between green and red. I had the Chilaquiles my husband had juevos rancheros…absolutely perfect, definitely recommend.

I was just passing through. Someone had recommended this place. It’s kind of out of the way, but man what a treat! This is a local legend in this town.

Tldr – Service is very casual, food is good. Single restroom

Place with a cool vibe.
The food was pretty good as well. We all enjoyed the food we ordered.

As mentioned, there was a single server working the entire restaurant. She was nice and pleasant. Just hard for her to get around the entire place on her own.
Also, if you need the restroom during your visit there may be a line for it as it’s a single restroom for the establishment.

My sweetie and I hardly ever go out to eat in this town, we usually just cook at home. However, the Trading Post is a staple that draws us out regularly.
Great, well rounded menu, good prices, and such talented cooks in that kitchen! The food is always cooked to absolute perfection and the service is great! Shout out to the new server who was there tonight, you were awesome! And shoutout to the whole staff for always providing a great experience all around. Excellent place to go if you are having a shit day and need a pick me up All will be well at the Trading Post.

P.s. Awesome selection of cookbooks to look through in the back dining area. And dont you forget to peep that dessert refrigerator before you go.
