Tradewinds Cafe & Bar – Visit Oxnard
Reviews
Highly recommended.
We stumbled across this place while we adventured out to try and find a new place to grab a coffee in the morning. We sat at the bar and ordered two cups of black coffee; we were pleasantly surprised when they brought us out our own coffee carafe. They do have specialty coffee, but we were very happy with the plain coffee and creamer.
After looking around, we noticed the bar was very well set up for specialty drinks, particularly a very nice setup for old fashioneds, and couldn’t help ourselves. I’ve got to say we have traveled around a lot and evaluate a bar based on if the bartender knows how to make a nice old fashioned without over complicating it. This place is most definitely in my top 5 for old fashioneds I’ve had in the USA. They started off with smoking fresh rosemary in the whiskey glass; used their house whiskey, which amazingly is a very nice 4 roses bourbon, and completed it with a well balanced amount of bitters, orange peel, and the good dark cherries. The light smoke from the rosemary paired phenomenally well with the four roses. If you’re into a well-made old fashioned I highly recommend checking out the craftsmanship of this bartender.
So, of course, after a solid first experience, we decided to try breakfast. We ordered the Chilaquiles pork Chile Verde, and oh man. We had ordered the chilaquiles from Hollywood Cafe a few days prior, and this place knocked them out of the water. The plate came out quickly, and the chips were still crunchy. The pinto beans are extremely well seasoned, and the eggs cooked to perfection and the verde sauce expertly done. Their house made salsa and the correct amount of heat and exploded with flavor. I did not get pictures of our meal because quite frankly we were enjoying our experience to much to waste it with phones. 10/10, we will be back tomorrow.
So give this place a try the service and friendly staff alone will not disappoint. Pair it with the food and atmosphere and you have an amazing combination. This is a new gem and deserves the opportunity to thrive in this beautiful location.
EDIT: day 2 of breakfast.
This time we brought the father in law
He had the Machaca and eggs. Great depth of flavor and well rounded breakfast. He says it’s the best machaca he’s had in a long time
My fiance had the hot habanero Mexican omlette. This thing is awesome. Nice spice but I wouldn’t call it spicey. Amazing depth of flavor in an omlette and man do they know how to pack filling into an omlette. Highly recommend.
I had the berry crepes. Things things
were so nice and light with perfectly crisped edges. Very well done as they were sweet but not to sweet. A well balanced crepe.
The service and experience was just as good the second day as the first.
Tradewinds is my wife’s and my new favorite local spot, and we’re looking forward to our next brunch and finally trying it out for dinner.
We went during Happy Hour on a Friday and I was pleasantly surprised with how full the restaurant was. The staff was friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and was hot.
We tried the Happy Hour avocado wrap. It was not for me. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, my husband ordered the chili Verde burrito. Both were yummy!
The menu has a lot to offer and I can’t wait to try other things! The price point is a good value for the portion size and the amazing harbor views.
Came back again 4 months later and the food and service did not disappoint (asked for Humberto again).
