Raleigh finally has a dedicated sake bar! Sake has been growing in popularity for many years and I was excited to learn that a shop was opening here.

The owners are genuinely passionate about sake and they have a great selection of bottles and flights. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable and welcoming. Whether you know your sake or not they will help you.

The space itself is fun. They have a cedar bar, and the floors are decorated with art that gives the place real character. It feels both fancy and unpretentious.

The sake selection is excellent. You’ll find quality bottles you won’t see at typical restaurants, with enough variety to explore different styles and regions. The selection also differs from what many of the local distributors carry at hmart and many restaurants so there’s always something to try.

Even if sake isn’t usually your thing, or your only experience is at a Japanese restaurant. I’d encourage you to check this place out. It’s the kind of unique, locally-owned spot that makes Raleigh a great place to live.

I have never felt more welcome in a Triangle area bar than I have at Toyo Sake Shop. “I can’t wait to try” quickly became “I can’t wait to be back” …and it’s no surprise since the same love, care, and mom-and-pop attention that makes the Toyo Shokuhin gift/grocery store a local favourite drives every greeting, every staff interaction here.

The warm sake my friends and I shared was mildly sweet, warming to the cheeks, and just delightful. But in truth, my first trip in was absolutely dominated by their collection of hard to get Japanese Whiskeys – and I highly recommend you give the Yamazaki 12 year a try (especially if you love smooth Irish Whiskeys). Not sure what you want? You can take your time here. They have Sake flights, Whiskey flights, and an absolutely massive selection of bottles to browse (including beer and Umeshu – plum wine – as well). The saff are well versed with the offerings, making them excellent guides… and excellent story tellers.

In fact, Chris, has attained what essentially his Sake Sommelier certification and the rest of the staff are eager to do the same! That’s the kind of attention the sake gets here, and the kind of attention our party of first time visitors received too!

So if you’re looking for a new neighbourhood watering hole, stop on by. Want to impress someone? Bring your date here. Looking for a happy boozy gift to bring a close friend? The shop is open and only getting more stocked! We are definitely coming back.

The owner and his son were really welcoming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is quaint and low key. They gave snacks that paired well with the flight I tried and complimented the diverse sake selection. I can’t wait to go back. This place is truly a hidden gem

Love this place and the owners. Laid back atmosphere with a high quality and diverse sake selection. We always get top-notch service when we go here. They are very knowledgeable about sake and happy to talk about it and explain differences between them. Great activity to do as a group and we’re still working on bringing all of our friends here!

So beyond hyped to have a little slice of Japan here in the triangle. The owner Chris and his son (Yuji?) were so friendly. Yuji(?) was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and talked with us at length about the different sakes. We went with flight #2 and then some individual pours. Check out their bottle selection when you visit!! We will definitely be back.

I’m so happy this place exists because there has never been anywhere around here with a real sake selection, and they absolutely nailed it. The staff actually talk to you and figure out what you like instead of just pointing at a menu, and every recommendation we got was spot on. If you think sake is just “hot or cold,” this will completely change your mind. There’s so much range in style and flavor and they make it really easy and fun to explore without feeling overwhelmed. Even if you think you don’t like sake, you probably just haven’t found the right one… yet
