The Early Bird Gets the Pastry: A “Sold Out” Lesson Learned
I’ve heard the hype about Tous les Jours, so I was excited to finally stop in during the evening to grab some treats. Unfortunately, the secret is clearly out—this place was almost entirely picked over by the time we arrived.
While the shop still smelled incredible, the display cases were a bit of a “pastry graveyard.” We were bummed to see that almost all of their signature items and viral favorites were long gone. It’s a testament to their popularity, but a heartbreak for a late-night craving!
• Timing is Everything: Learn from my mistake! If you have your heart set on a specific piece of cake or a certain savory bread, you absolutely must get here early. * The Vibe: Even with empty shelves, the aesthetic of the bakery is beautiful and clean. It’s clear they run a high-quality operation, which explains why the community clears them out so quickly.
I can’t give a full flavor review yet, but I can give a logistical one: Plan your visit for the morning. I’ll definitely be back for a “Round 2” earlier in the day to see what all the fuss is about. (Giving 3 stars because “sold out” usually means “it’s worth it,” but 4&5 stars is reserved for when I actually get my hands on that milk bread!)

I love TLJ! So many people get confused because it’s a French name, but it’s actually a French-inspired Korean chain–French pastry artistry with Asian flavors and muted sugar. Honestly, the best of both worlds!
Just grab a tray, lay some paper down, don’t forget your tongs, and make your selections! We got some pastries out of the displays, and also a slice of cake and a double-stuffed macaron from the cold case. Delicious! And, just the right amount of sweetness!
I’m so glad I waited until the hype cooled down. Running out of product early during the opening months is normal for any highly-revered bakery. It doesn’t matter how prepared you are. I don’t frequent many chain shops, but the quality has been consistent across all of the TLJ stores I’ve visited the world over! I fell in love with the cloud cake when I was in Malaysia and I was able to re-live that same joy when I was in Chicago, Minneapolis, and now here. International chains such as this tend to hold themselves to a higher standard. It shows.

I’m so happy Des Moines finally has a South Korean bakery! TOUS les JOURS is super cute and has a great selection of pastries and drinks. They have cloud cake, macarons, and so many cute pastries! It’s soo hard to choose! I got a cloud cake, a milk bread loaf, and my favorite, sausage ppang. It tastes just like the ones in Korea! Everything was soft, fresh, and delicious. Their coffee goes perfectly with the pastries, and the staff is super friendly

We tried Tous Les Jours for the first time and we will absolutely be back! It is absolutely beautiful inside with lots of natural lighting. They are constantly refilling their multiple cases of fresh pastries. The employees were kind and efficient. Although we did not try their coffee, it looked delicious as well!

Every pastry we tried was fantastic, huge variety of breads, pastries, and cakes. Coffee is also great. The cream filling is not overly sweet, it’s outstanding. Can’t wait to go back and try more!

Really good pastries here. I’m Asian myself and don’t really like sweet desserts, especially American desserts, but these Korean-inspired desserts hit the spot. Definitely try out the vanilla cream donut and milk-flavored pastries! Also, the staff were very kind and the store looked super clean.

Cakes, Cookies and Assorted Pastries that are presentation lovely and tastefully divine. These French treats are full of surprises as you enter and grab a pastry box and select the treat of your choice that will make you anxious to return to your happy place to pinch a delightful piece of guilty pleasure. Their prices are above average for the area and the cake choices may be limited depending on the time of day you enter. Yet what’s left is still scrumptious.

Stopped by with a few friends and we all loved it. The pastries were super fresh and they had so many sweet and savory options. The staff kept the trays refilled throughout the afternoon so everything stayed fresh.
I tried the Iced Matcha Latte (creamy and just sweet enough) and a slice of Mango Cloud Cake that was airy and bursting with flavor. My friends ordered Cloud Teas and loved them too. Friendly, relaxed vibe and a great variety of treats. I’ll definitely be back with my family.

Tous les Jours is a lovely bakery/café with delicious pastries and fresh baked goods. The bread and desserts have great flavor and texture, and everything looks very inviting in the display. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the service is quick. It is a nice place to grab a coffee, enjoy a sweet treat, or pick up fresh bread. A great spot if you are in the mood for fresh bakery flavors. Prices are moderate.
